My brother left his camera out in the rain a few months ago and, when it didn't work, bought a new one. He was tinkering with it a while later and it worked. I swapped him a case of oil for it. It takes regular photos perfect and the zoom is fine...these are 98% of the reason I would want a camera like that so I feel like I stole it. So far I have found out that it doesn't want to take movies (via the magic button or by turning the dial) or delete individual pictures (can delete all in the menu).

Is there anything I can do to fix the issues or prevent more from occurring? I'm afraid of the contactors rusting...is there a way I can open the shell just to let it dry out better?

Yes, I realize this is like asking someone to diagnose a check engine light with no computer to read the ECU, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like part of the circuitry has gone bad. Enjoy what you have while you can; the problems will only spread. Pretty much he did the only thing he could in that situation - pull the batteries and let it dry thoroughly and then let it dry some more before trying to use it again. But any corrosion that gets started once it's gotten wet will only get worse over time.
