I got this quite cheap on ebay but it claims to transmit almost 100% of light and it's very slim. Is this known to be a good filter, in comparison to say the B+W MRC filters?

Yeah this is one of Hoya's finest.

I use several sizes of this filter and I have no issue whatsoever with image degradation or anything else. I've never used B+W so I can't compare.

I only use Hoya Super HMC Pro 1 filters. There are a few variations out there like 1) Super HMC 2) PRO1 Unsure which is better, so I just buy SUPER HMC PRO 1 filters. I have never used B+W so can't comment.

Thanks all. On a recent thread the B+W was being recommended universally, but not a mention of the Hoya.

The only problem with mine is that the glass has come loose. Didn't expect that for a filter in this range.

Check for a threaded retaining ring holding the glass in place; some have that, others use spring clips.

Generally the Hoya Pro1 filters are very good. I use several. Their weakness is that A) they can be difficult to clean, and B) they scratch fairly easily. I have a B+W UV filter too, and while it seems slightly better built, and is easier to clean, I have noticed no image quality differences between the two. The Hoyas are generally more affordable.
