...mess with this guy?

These were taken earlier today and to be honest and I not really happy with the training shots as I am with the posing ones. I would like them to have the same impact as some of the training ones in the mags (see link below). I know a lot of it has to do with the colour of the attire, tan and also the lighting so I guess I'll have to experiment till I get it right.

In the meantime please feel free to add your comments and suggestions on how to improve.

here's the link to the type of lighting and effect I would like to be able to achieve -

my set up consisted only of two lights, one main medium size softbox and one medium white brolley.

Thanks
Tauseef.

Big boy, but nothing that a nice baseball bat or 9mm couldn't fix... (he says bravely from the security of the office in his home...lol)

Good shots. Gyms have got to be tough to shoot in.

I hope you dont mind but I did a bit of messing in photoshop to try to "up the intensity" and give it a bit more of that tough, grungy look that the magazines use.

Im sure others here could do much better, but here is my take on it.

Hi, sorry for the delayed reply...

I darked the whole photo, then upped the contrast and saturation, and moved the hue to be slightly redder...

Then sharpened it, did an "auto levels" and "auto contrast", and cropped it down a bit.

I believe that was all!

Sorry, as I was just playing with it I wasn't watching what I was doing.

Hi Tauseef, I think the angle of the lighting did a good job of showing muscle definition. I dont really see a lot wrong with your shots here, especially considering the conditions. Well done, I say. ;)

I noticed in the mag shots that the floresent lighting was turned off and I think that is why your shots are lacking the red or part of the reason anyway.

Actually, I like your shots better.... The only thing that's not better, is the background. As stated, turn of the fluorescant lights, and make sure the background is not distracting. (no white things with lots of detail)These pics might get better if you darkeen the BG in PS. Good shots!

Thanks skyphix, I had a play around with the levels and kinda figured it out. Thanks anyway.

Good pont cactusclay, they normally do the gym shoots outside of regular hours hence I guess they can move the equipment around alot more and switch off the ligths, unfortunatley these were shot during the day so had to make do with what I could.
