View Full Version : is there any pan/tilt heads that do precisely 90 degrees

I meant to ask about this a month ago, but just remembered my ongoing problem.
I don't use ball heads because they take too long to get my camera level, but I have not yet found a pan/tilt head that goes exactly 90 degrees to portrait mode. They all seem to go at least 95-100 degrees over. This annoys the heck out of me. All I want is a pan/tilt head that can hold my camera and lens and doesn't go over 90 degrees without my wanting it to. If I get the line level and I tilt it, I want the line to again be level, without me having to eyeball it.

If you know of one that can handle at least 8lbs (1DsMkII w/battery, 70-200/2.8L IS and extender), please let me know I want one. Even better if it fits the standard Bogen tripod. I have tried out over 6 different ones.

I do studio photography usually and it needs to be in landscape or portrait mode not artistic angle mode. For that I can take my camera off the tripod.

Maybe I don't understand how ball heads work either, but they seem to not do what I want them to do in the time I want them to do it.
