Does the show Planet Earth just make you want to quit everything and buy a Marc D and just travel the world and shoot. It takes all my will to stay in school and not do such. But it is def my goal one day to do such a thing and experience all the awesome things there are to see and shoot. Cheers to PLANET EARTH, for inspiring many a photographer

My cats, however, insist that I continue to pay the mortgage, change their litter regularly, and feed them twice a day.

Planet Earth is by far the most amazing show or series produced for TV. If you are watching now while it is being rerun on Discovery then spend the money and buy the DVD's. There is so much bonus and behind the scene footage you are missing. When you find out what they went through just to get some of the shots. People spent 10 hours a day, 7 days a week for months on end just to get 5 minutes of bird of paradise or snow leopard. The extras are worth the expense.

I haven't seen the World at War series. I'll have to check that out.

Yeah I was watching last night where they said the videographer had no trees or anything to hide behind while filming some kind of deer so he dug a hole and buried most of his body for 10 hours so that he could get close to them. That's amazing! I might have to buy that DVD.

I've never seen the World at War series either.

absolutely do it now. It's amazing how life and work get in the way of what you want to do. Go for it!

Its a well-known fact that Natural History programmes (and in particular Planet Earth) define the BBC at its best. Can't be beat simple, as that. The dedication in getting these shots, as described above, is endless. These BBC series often take 10 years (years!!) to make. The other drivel that panders to society - yes I'm talking to you, Eastenders - best left well alone.

And The World At War certainly is an amazing series.

Agreed - the BBC may make some crap programmes (and you quoted one right there) but as far as Natural History is concerned, they are one of the best in the business if not the best! I think the only company who come close to the dedication they show is National Geographic

I have not seen planet earth, but i was watch Lost In China on national geographic channel, and they got these two guys traveling china. One guy shoots with a large video camera, while the other shoots with a 5D and a lot of L lenses.

After watching one episode, i really wanted to shoot. I am Chinese, born in Canada, and those two guys have been to more places in China than I. Some of the places they visit were remarkable.

Buy it with Sir David Attenborough's narration of it - since he is the best man ever do anything with nature on this kind of scale - not the Sigourney Weaver narration (why get an actress to do a voice over??).

As for the images off planet earth, they are just outstandingly superb.
