I mean if you think logically, the xt firmware can not be that much different, but then again it does have the different sensor, etc..

but what i guess; im trying to ask will the xt firmware work on the 300d?

Without alteration, no. And anyway, why would you want it to? I'd rather have the hacked 300D firmware. It's not like replacing the firmware is going to magically make an extra 2mpxl appear.

I would SERIOUSLY doubt it. There are some other differences besides the sensor, the biggest being the DIGIC II Processor in the XT versus the original DIGIC in the 300D. I have to imagine that the firmware for the different processors is quite different given the additional capabilities of the second version.

There's no way it could work, the 350D has a different processor and different hardware.

I think the real question is: could the 20d firmware be hacked to work with the XT? I'll bet it would unlock those extra custom functions...
Just a thought.

I notice that the 350D uses it's own grip, the BGE3.
I wonder if it's better than the BGE2 for the 20D?

Note that the 350D has a different sensor and a different processor, the DIGIC II vs. the original DIGIC in the 300D. The 350D firmware will not work in the 300D for sure.

That would be like trying to load Windows XP on my ibook :-)

Since Canon marketing was a little less conservative with the XT (thank you D70!), There doesn't seem to be as much incentive for a hack. Seems to me most limitations are in hardware. Not that somebody won't try... :D
