I need some help with my settings for team shots..... shooting in low light (gym) with my 40D and 28-135mm lens, the last two girls are slightly blurred. I have the aperture wide open, is this the problem? If so, how do I account for more light if I bring it down? Shooting at 1600 ISO. Thanks for your help!

Well if your wide open and at your max ISO there is nothing you can do but ask them to be still or add more light. You can add more light by using a flash (best option) or to get a lens wih larger aperture.

Adding flash will also fix white balance issues.

Actually, I think the problem is the girls moved, and your shutter speed wasn't quick enough to stop the motion ...

The recommendation would be to use a flash (or even a couple of flashes off camera) that will allow you to:
1) lower your ISO
2) up your shutter speed
3) get more depth of field to make sure everyone's in focus
4) overcome those gym lights
5) and if somebody does move a little bit, they shouldn't turn into a blur (hopefully!)

Also, the photo you posted needs to be leveled, too - the horizon's just a little crooked ....

what kind of flash do you recommend? I posted this unretouched.... it is quite unlevel you are right! This wasnot my final work on it, but I seem to always end up with some blurry people on the edges and I would like to correct this..........here is another example, where no one is moving, but the coach is just a bit out of focus.....

That's not too bad, really. The girl on the one girl's back is a bit out of focus. I do see some small issues with the far right girl's right foot. Looks like her foot is glowing. Same with the girl on the left's arm.
