How do you trade equipment online safely?

Perhaps the answer is extremely simply and easy, but I am curious as to what might be the best and most secure method of trading an item securely via someone online. Items such as lenses or camera bodies, for instance. There is no real security by way of money transferred and disputable - so I am not sure how to make a secure trade.

Maybe try www.escrow.com, I've used them to purchase expensive equipment online before.

Did you read the wanted/sales section of this forum?
You could probably find some good info there.
The whole idea honestly makes me nervous.
I've got a lens I'd like to sell but am not sure the best way to do it.
