View Full Version : Blue cast in snowy winter pictures. Why?

I saw a lot of winter pictures on the net which comes with quite strong blue cast. (Have a look at the sample)
What do you think where does this cast come from?

White balance setting I guess, I tried playing with WB on my G3 & got similar cast. You can get this cast in any season with appropriate WB setting I think.

You may also get it by post processing in some image editor.

The sky is blue. Snow is white and reflects the sky color. The same thing happens with shadows, but it's not as noticeable when much of the light is absorbed by colored objects. The example you posted has both strikes against it.

With film the trick is to use warming filters. With digital, the solution lies in adjusting white balance as Raj said.
