I'm thinking I'll need a little more storage on my upcoming trip to Britain, and I have a $100 futureshop gift certificate...would this be a good use? I'm trying to save as much money as possible at the moment so that I can have enough for the 5D Mark II once it comes out.

I wonder why they suddenly don't have any Sandisk CF cards.. they were well priced.

My card reader is Lexar and I've had no problems with it, Not sure about the cards but I'd say they would be good quality. I tend to use Sandisk and I'm thinking about getting a 48gb Pretec card.

I'm not sure if the 40D can use the UDMA speed, you could probubly nab a 16gb non UDMA card for less...

That said, the 5D M2 does use UDMA, so it depends, but 8gb might be a tidge small for that..

I would also throw out a recommendation for Transcend, I got one of their 8gb 133x CF cards right now, works great and ran me about $35

So what do I use my gift certificate on? They don't have firewire external drives, something else I need...

Hood, Or cleaning kit, or a filter, or a extra battery, or a imagination perhaps

The same card (Lexar Professional 300X UDMA) works more than three times faster when shooting RAWs and almost three times faster when shooting JPGs when used in the 50D as compared to being used in a 40D. It will only "offload" faster if used with a UDMA capable card reader ... see Rob Galbraith's data base for the exact figures.

If you can do with 4GB cards they have a sale on them (Lexar 300X UDMA)
