Pic of dancers waiting to perform outside the Olympic venue in Homebush, Sydney. I'm am amateur, but I LOVE this shot! I would love someone to play around with it and either make it better, or even do some special effects with it (if you have photoshop?).

This is a nice record shot, but:
- it does not convey any sense of dancing,
- the steel truss work and sky do not complement or help to isolate the dancers
- the lighting is so-so
- there is limited color
- the pose is rather stiff
- the face painting is aboriginal
So I would say that it this image has its limitations. In contrast, Sheila's Pop-Out (posted elswhere on this site and on Shutter Feaks) is Australian to the core.

Thanks for your comments Howie. I really appreciate them. I tend to agree ... I still like it, despite the limitations, Just a personal thing

I feel a liitle bad about my original post.
On the one hand, I guess what I was trying to say was that as a record shot it is quite a fine photo. I can feel how it would be a wonderful shot to take away after the dance. Butas I was not there so some of that magic is lost to me
On the other hand, as a more artistic shot, I think that some of my comments may have merit. So it depends what you were after.
And so often when I find myself backtracking on my comments, it is because the originator's do not describe their expectations.

I agree with you on an artistic level!
But yes, it was a magical for moment for me, and it may be quite relevant to the Aboriginal newspaper that I work for, but it's really interesting to get other's opinions who come at it from a more objective view.
I'm trying to become a better photographer, as I'm a new journalist who finds myself stuck with taking my pics too!
