The best B&W photo I've seen on this forum.
Period.

Very nice shot, indeed. I think the key that makes it work is the height of the camera being dead level with the countertop. I don't think it would have the impact if you were up higher, looking down and you would have lost the reflected lights. It looks so natural in B&W that I can't even imagine that there could have been color in the scene at all.

Really, really good. I'm totally with Bloo Dog on this. Had to keep going back to it. OOOhh. First indeed found it overwheelming but the contrast and the different shapes just are to interesting and well kept. I hope that we will see more of your talent.

Wow. Thank you very much for your kind words and critique.

I noticed a slight slant to some of the lines in the image - mostly due to the wide angle lens - and have straightened thing out a bit and re-posted the image.

As Bloo Dog and Connie mentioned, the scene initially appeared busy to me as well. So, I decided to make the chairs the primary subject, allowing all the other elements to, hopefully, fall into place compositionally. The lowered perspective is noticed by Jim.

The only other serious consideration came in post-production - deciding on any cropping. My initial inclination was to crop out the left chair. Then I rejected that idea as I like the leg and newspaper - they seemed to add another dimension to the image - maybe a bit of balance, maybe just a little bit of tension. As for the left/fifth chair - I definitely felt it necessary. The cropped version, to me, seemed too pure or cosmetic.

However, some may disagree - do some of you feel that such a crop might work?

Thanks again.

More than a touch of class here Tuna. I initially thought of the crop but then felt and still do that the composition needs the width. Newspaper I like, not too sure about the foot.
Simple and original as usual. The perfect combination.

Hi Tom!

Thanks for the comment. I'm new here and it's good to see a familiar "face"...

I love this picture, Tuna. The only thing I found distracting was the leg on the left. How did you convince those diners to wear dark clothes for you? :)
