I hear this click sound whenever I turn on my Powershot A85....it is medium volume and happens right after the camera is fully turned on...or when I zoom in fully....it seems as though something is stuck i am not quite sure...it is very annoying can anyone help?

I have the same problem with my A75 - I'd had it about 2 weeks when it started making a suspiciously loud clicking/whirring noise whenever the zoom was adjusted. I also came here for advice but didn't get a response (unless it came after I stopped checking).
It doesn't seem to be a serious problem as the noise hasn't gotten any worse in a month and a half, and doesn't seem to affect the camera's performance any at all. My brief research shows that a noisy zoom seems to be a fairly common complaint with Canon digitals.
The best advice I can give you is to do like I did, and pretend you don't hear it.
Maybe someone with more knowledge can enlighten us.........?

Well, I started playin with my aperture settings on my S30 over the past weekend (just for fun). Seems now my S30 makes a very different noise when turned on than it used to when I had it in P mode or Auto. Are you using Av? If so, maybe it's the aperture changing as soon as the cam is fully on.

I have a 6 week old A75 with strange sounds after start and zooming. From what I understand the noise are due to the AF moving parts of the lens system to focus the lens. This explans why the noise is triggered by the zoom function. I have noticed no speed loss or any problems with any pictures.
Other members of this board have sent their cameras back for repair due to the noise in their cameras.
Cheers, Zeke

My A75 was making this noise when I first purchased it. I wasn't concerned about it until I read some posts on this board so I emailed Canon support and they said that it is just the lens focusing and these sounds are perfectly normal. My A75 works just fine and I don't really see any reason for concern.
That my 2 cents.
