Ditto. At work I have a backdrop and table painted chroma key green. Lighting is tricky but it works well.

Even lighting is very important for chroma key. Blue and green are used and would use whichever gives you the most contrast against your subject. Obviously if your subject has a blue top then you wouldn't use a blue chroma key background.
