Hello

I have very limted PS knowledge, so an idiots guide on how to do this would be appreciated.

I have taken a portrait with a white background, unfortunately a small shadow has been cast on the white background, rendering the background a dirty white colour.

What is the best way to convert the backround to pure white. Please remember I am pretty useless at PS.

Thks

1) Hit x or d until the background color turns to white
2) Click on the magic wand (it's like a stick with a fluffy bit on the end) and in the options bar choose a tolerance of 30
3) Click on the shadow. Change the 30 to something else if you want.
4) Hit the delete key
5) Goto 3)

That's what I do anyway... good luck :)

If the "shadow" on the background is uniform across the whole background, you may just need to adjust levels to bring up the brightness. Without going directly to levels adjustments, it may be simpler to try to following:

image>adjustments>auto contrast; then image>adjustments>brightness/contrast and change sliders to suit your tastes

If this doesn't work, you'll need to learn more on how to use PS.

hello

Thanks for that , when I say I am not very good , I understand levels, layers etc, but when it comes to masks and gradient tools I get a bit lost
