does anyone have a picture of themselves (or anyone for that matter) wearing a think tank speed demon or a lowepro inverse 100? much appreciated.

I ordered the Speed Demon last week and should be getting it tomorrow according to the UPS Tracking code they sent.

I'll post up a shot as soon as I get it straped around my waist so you can judge the size

Not a review but a question if I may.

I am looking at this bag as it holds a laptop and DSLR.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the "hammock" feature of the bag and if one had experience with it or any pros or cons of said feature.

I thank you in advance and here is the link!

It's a good way to keep the camera weight off the front of a lens that extends with AF. (Which can cause premature AF failure; See Canon 50mm f/1.4 AF failures). The drawback here is that the system will be limited by the exterior diameter of the lens. Larger lenses may not fit, or have difficulty fitting. Lenses with tripod feet will not fit without the removal of said feet.

The interior of Lowepro's Classified series has a different method of doing the same thing.

It's not a critical method of carrying gear. I wouldn't limit my choice of bags based on that feature. Any other camera backpack should work fine for most gear, just be careful how your store your lenses. I keep my 50 1.4 stored with the hood extended.

the 2 bags I'm interested in aren't on the list...

Dolica DK-30 & Lowepro CompuDayPack

Reason: Camera/lenses compartment. Laptop compartment. and 3rd general compartment, all separate.

Can someone recommend any other packs with these 3 options? Needs to fit Rebel+Grip and 2 or 3 lenses in the camera pocket.

The Kata D467i has all the 3 features. What lenses do you have? I can fit my 500d with the 55-250 mounted in the bag. Anything longer might be an issue.

Thanks! It's hard to search for bags by specific criteria.

Good to know. My longest lens is roughly the size of a 24-105 L which I see people have managed to squeeze into it.

Hi everyone, OP here. I get busy with other things. I try to keep this up to date as I can. I apologize if your review isn't on here as soon as you'd like, but I will get to it.

led hed, what you're asking for is not possible. You're not supposed to click through all the different links and reviews to find what you want. You need to be able to take a look at your own gear, consider how much space you think you need and browse manufacturer websites until you've narrowed down your search to say a "medium sized backpack". Then you look through the reviews that fit that criteria, and pick the one that you like based on the pros and cons each reviewer has given you.

As someone who's gone through the process several times, I can tell you that no matter the review you'll want to try it out for yourself. Not everyone fits their gear in the same way.

Scott you said that well. If it were easy, WalMart would have the perfect bag for everone, and it would be cheap.
The reviews and comments here are priceless. I've just bought a TT Retro10 based on comments here, and trying it at the store.
Prior to that I didn't do my research well; last bag doesn't work well for me (thought it would for others) TT UD40.

I have too many bags, so maybe I'm a poor one to respond. If I'd chosen the perfect bag at first, I'd only have one. ;)

Bags range from those that are light and easy to shoot out of, to others you pack stuff into to keep it safe. What's your preference?

If you want a shooter bag--Domke makes bags that are a delight to use, and have been around for a while. Jon here is a real expert.

If you want a bag with more padding and still want to shoot out of it, I have 2--Think Tank Retro 10 works for me; so does my LowePro Stealth Reporter AW. It comes in different sizes depending on what you carry.

The TT bag comes in 2 larger sizes too.

Hope this helps

well i am a enthusiast but not a professional by any means. right now i don't have a lot of gear because i just recently got into this hobby. however, i am planning on buying at least 2 more lenses, a tripod, maybe some flashes and some small accessories (filters, hoods, cables, memory cards/reader, etc.). i want something thats comfortable & safe, travel friendly (for all kinda of atmosphere), easy to access, weather protection would be a plus, and able to hold my 13" laptop.

i think the lowepro vertex 100 and the thinkpad streetwalker harddrive suit my needs and the reviews seem great. are there others i should be looking into perhaps?

2mnycars
16th of March 2011 (Wed), 11:00
I predict that your post will get moved...so more can see it. There are so many bag solutions. Throw in your tripod and laptop needs and the list gets shorter. There is a review of the TT strtwlkr hrdrv here that reports it is very comfortable. Will it carry a laptop?

What I do? I take the gear I want to carry to a major photo store and stuff it in the bags that look interesting. It takes a while.

Some bags are extraordinarily heavy. Look forward to seeing what you choose.

This is the Bag i recently purchased from B & H Photo, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/200009-REG/Canon_6242A001_Professional_Gadget_Bag_1EG.html So far, im pretty happy with it actually, I thought is was priced just a bit high, but as i said, it really is a descent bag, Great zippers and plenty of padding (which was definately one of my biggest concerns) All in all though, I would definately reccomend it to someone, no question

Tenba Messenger Bag --new opinion

I read the reviews here and realized: the insert shown with the reviews is much more substantial than the one that came with my Tenba Messenger Large.

Called Vistek (the seller) and bought the current insert. It's much better! The one I had was configured to hold a dslr horizontally. Depending on the lens, you couldn't fit much more in. The insert wasn't strong enough to support a camera with the lens pointed down. It made for a slimmer messenger bag, but that doesn't meet my current needs.

Goal? Carry my d300s + grip with 18-200VR mounted. I couldn't do that before. With the new insert, I can.

(I was carrying 2 bags to work. Clumsy of me...my second bag slipped off my shoulder. Lost a filter. It was smashed. Could have been much worse.)

This bag is much more capable than I realized! Why? The new insert makes it a real camera bag! The old insert that came with my Messenger Large was useless.
Thanks Vistek for having the insert in stock.

I recently began receiving Outdoor Photography Magazine, and am amazed that the writers of the articles go out hiking for days or weeks at a time on nature/landscape photo shoots. It makes me wonder how do they pack and transport all of their camera gear as well as tent, sleeping bag, food, change of clothes, etc...
This interests me greatly. Maybe not for weeks at a time, but a few days. Where do I start?

I have a Canon Powershot G12, and I need a bag for it. It would be great if I could find something that is a shoulder bag, but can turn into a backpack. I'm looking for something about the size of the Lowepro Exchange Messenger bag (I know the G12 is a pretty small camera but I have lots of accessories). Is there any such bag that exists, or should I just find a generic bag like this and add some padding/inserts for cameras?

By the way, my budget is around $100.

Have you seen the Black Rapid SnapR ? It's a sling for a P&S and a small bag for protection. Would fit a G camera well. (There are several sizes.) Someone here has one and really likes it.

I used a bunch of OpTech fittings for mine. Allowed me to stash my camera under my coat during rainy weather; kept me from dropping it. I have very poor sense of touch, and drop things easily.

I didn't see any reviews for this bag so I figured I would post it here. I got this Apollo backpack a little less than a year ago. It wasn't even 3 months before the bag stared falling apart, all the seems were falling apart and what not. I tried to contact the seller and never got back to me. Avoid this at all costs, not even worth the $60.

Just got my Tamrac 5564 Explorer 400.

The bag itself feels pretty well made, and comfortably fits my 60D (will easily fit the camera with grip) and 55-250 mounted, my 18-55 with hood, and my Sunpak PZ42X flash in the main compartment with loads of room to spare. The front pocket holds my charger with cable, 2 sets of 4 Eneloop AA's, LensPen and a few sundries. The pocket inside the lid is perfect for memory cards, microfibre cloth, lens wipes, etc.

The included rain protector does not fit in the bottom of the bag as in the Lowepro's (it sits in its own removable pouch).

The strap has a very comfortable moulded pad for over the shoulder wear (a la Black Rapid), and there is a zippered pocket on the back for manuals etc. there is another (open) pocket in the back with a zip at the bottom, which when opened allows the bag to be slipped securely over a strolley.

Will post a few pics as soon as I am able.

I'm a fan of the Ranger Tan color myself, but as my (ahem, slightly misogynistic) coworker said, "only women spend that much on a bag". It is oh very tempting though.

so disappointing, especially if they're expecting me to give them that much for what is at the end of the day, still just a bag. maybe I'll look at the billinghams you mentioned in your note to them.

Anyone here have a rec for an insert that can accommodate a d700 with the additional bulk of an attached grip?

I really wish I'd read this a few hours ago, because I literally just ordered a Shift Pannier. I wanted the Snoop Messenger until I realized there was no carry handle. I think I need to find an insert for it though because I don't think there's a lot of padding for it.

You can use the Snoop in their Laptop Messenger as well, which does have the handle. I got a custom bag, which isn't on fire sale, but is cool (and custom :))

That would be a better option. I can't justify the custom bag cost, but the Commute 2.0 Messenger with the Snoop looks like it'll work. Too bad I can't cancel the other order. Thanks!

Commute is on 1-day sale today, too. Some are $54! I had to resist mightily...

Helpp me please . :(

Had a 7mdh; sold it. The new one is much improved. Customers generally are very loyal.
Had a TT Retro 10 PS bag; didn't like the raincover at all. However, there is a very loyal user base here. Shooter bag (what I want and need; becomes a storage bag with the raincover on. So for me it fails with the raincover on. I will buy a larger Billingham when I can afford it. Going out to buy a lotary ticket now.)
Consider the appropriate sized LowePro Pro Messenger bag for you. It's a good equivalent; I like it better than the retro line.
Have an Urban Disguise 40 that is a delight now that I've changed the strap. Just a personal thing. I hate straps that are slippery, and fall off my shoulder. Need both hands free to work. Consider that the access to your gear is through the top. My bag takes both hands to insert my camera or remove it. Other shooter bags take one...

I use a grip as well; that's the killer for many bags.

Have you considered Domke bags? I have 2 and they're my bag of choice now. If you want to carry your camera+grip with the 70-200/2.8 mounted it will limit your choices. Somewhere here there is talk about doing this with a Domke. My guess is the F2 with a different insert, but I'm not sure...Jon is the expert!

I just received the snoop messenger earlier this week, its a nice bag!

I really like how the insert can be zippered up when you don't need access to the items; either for keeping whatever out, like dust, water, or an extra bit of security for thieving hands, though most places I go, I'm not too worried about either.

You're welcome. I don't have the Retro anymore. If I were buying today, it would be the LowePro. I like the raincover on the Pro Messenger better; don't like the one on the TT bag at all. But that's just me.
I am a fan of TT bags, but never considered the raincover when I bought.Shame on me.

The Retro line is extremely popular here on the forum. However, the TT bags are horribly expensive in Canada from the local vendor. Retro 10 is $209 Cdn plus 13% tax, out the door.

edit: I played with the two bag lines today. Took my iPad. Frankly I was disappointed with the LowePro bags. (I don't want to carry the iPad in the back pocket. I want the bag to conform to my hip. I don't want the iPad banging against my hip.) I couldn't carry my iPad in the smallest or mid-sized bag. The largest bag is huge! That's the only one, to fit the iPad in the front pocket but the bag is too large for me.
Back to Think Tank. The Retro20 would carry my iPad easily in the front pocket. Down side? I don't like the raincover! Another Think Tank bag, the Urban Disguise V2 would work well too.

Jon's right. Get a vest to carry the iPad.

my name is Dave. I am a bagaholic.

Any of you guys got your mittens on a Lowepro Passport Sling? Will it fit a 1-series body practically? I want to replace my Domke with something practical, urban, and comfortable, that can stash a pro body plus lens and perhaps another lens as well.

Was Wondering if anyone has used a Clik Elite Seeker or Trekker with a 5Dii and 17-40mm with a filter kit? I'vre read reviews and it seems like the equipment would fit (without battery grip) looking for a small everyday bag to carry essentials that would double for when I go hiking. really like a shoulder bag for around town but would like / need more stability on the trail. So looking for waist pack with a shoulder strap or shoulder bag with a belt clip / loop.

thanks in advance.

Review / photo tour: Lowepro Photo Sport 200 AW - newer active hiking biking bag

This adventure bag serves as my backpack (when I don't want to carry my entire kit)
hiking/biking, personal items, great backpack
It even has a bladder section for water, when biking/hiking.

I just wrote this up on the Clik Elite Venture 30 backpack. It's a great bag for hiking as it has a slot for a hydration bladder and plenty of space and protection for gear. There is the Venture 35 that's bigger too.

My T2i came with a free bag made by canon. I was expecting it to be a crud muffin bag but to my surprise, it is amazing! It can hold 4 lens, a camera, and lots of little accessories. Bottom line this bag is GREAT! Link to Bag.
