Thank you to everyone who has contributed by writing reviews and pointing out the ones I have missed.
Re-mastered and revised from the original list of camera bag reviews posted here on POTN first created by MazerRakhm. Much thanks.

Please PM me with your new bag reviews. Sometimes I don't see them.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3237/2976094054_5fae0fc047.jpg

All options of accessories fit. Batteries, chargers, filters, manuals, cords, but weighs maybe by guessing about 55 lbs.

If I need to, there is a large stretch pocket on the outside front panel where I can insert the PowerBook.

The only items not in this case are the 30D, and 17-55f2.8 which reside in sling bag with lens hoods stacked.
I need to add image of it packed.

does anyone have a recommendation for a good camera/laptop rolling bag? I am looking at the Think Thank Airport Airstream... I'm a total bag-a-holic...and have WAY too many camera bags.. but so far, none have fit all of my needs. I got the naneu pro roller.. but it ended up being too heavy for an international flight...I had to offload all extraneous items & remove the whole camera insert just to get the bag to weigh in!... I like that the Airstream fits under the seat... and in the overhead...and that the laptop can be easily & quickly removed from the front... Does anyone else have any thoughts on this bag or any other rolling camera/laptop bag?

Fantastic review with plenty of great pics - which I really like - they are great product shots ! Is that natural lighting or was flash used ?

When I first heard of this bag I really wanted to get it but then some of the reviews I read talked about the way the bag hangs when you start opening it which discouraged me.

On another note - great to see a S3 user progressing up to a 5D :)

S-Man
9th of January 2009 (Fri), 17:25
thanks. Yeah, I started with the S3, and still love it. I learned the principles of photography on it.
For the product shots, I used 1 Alien Bee 800 camera left with a shoot-through umbrella, and 1 430EX with a silver umbrella camera right. 5D on a tripod and white seamless paper on a table.
If you want a comfortable backpack with lots of room, I'd suggest the flipside 400.
Edit: How did you know I use a S3?

I took my whole camera kit to my local store with the intention of buying the TT Airport Airstream but wanted to see how much gear I could fit in it. After a half hour trying to get things to work I gave up, too small and the way the dividers seemed to work (there are a huge pile of dividers to choose from) I felt that it was designed for thinner lenses. The three most important were my 70-200 2.8 with shade, 24-70 with shade (these are all reversed of course) and the 85L with shade, all fat lenses, then I wanted to be able to carry a 4th lens along with a 580EXII and a MKIII body.

The dividers that have notches cut out so you can set the camera in the bag with a lens attached have the slots too small for these lenses and I just couldn't get things to fit.

So then I went from this smallest roller to the biggest roller but with the same frustrations, I really did not like anything about trying to fit my gear in it at all.

So then feeling quite frustrated, I went home deciding that I'd do with out until I can take some more time to look at Pelican cases and see how their divider system works. The TT cases just seemed to be made more for APS size lenses the way the dividers work. Yes in the photos they show all this stuff but the bottom is very weird in that it's not level, a way they say offers more room but how do you use it.

I was bummed, I'd finally decided to part with the money and go for it.

I have been very pleased with my Terraclime 100 bag. It holds a Canon 20D with kit lens and an extra lens with no problems. Nice zipper pocket for loose items and two external pockets for quick go to stuff.
In addition, it has a quality cloth "wrapper" for your camera.
I have used this bag frequently over the last year and it shows no signs of wear except coffee stains and the odd mustard blot.

to hold that much gear and the bag weighs < 4lbs. - that is good.

I used this REI lunch cooler ($19.95) this July in AZ and NV when temps were over 100. It is padded/insulated. I easily fit my 20D and my snack food in the bag. I also put in a blue ice bag to keep my snacks from melting on the camera.

I just bought the Stealth Reporter 300. Holds the 40D w/15-85 and Lumix FZ30 plus a Tokina 11-16 and two chargers. I could easily fit two more lenses the size of a 50mm and a 100mm prime. Without the FZ30 there it will easily hold a Canon 70-200 f4 too.

The Canon 2400 SLR gadget bag

Roomy enough to hold my XS, 3 lenses and their hoods (a couple of primes and a 55-250mm zoom), charger, cables, cleaning kit, instruction manual, and my backup point & shoot in the main compartment. Has easy access exterior side pockets where I've been able to put my wallet, cell phone, keys, cigarettes/lighter. Although not all weather, the exterior is water resistant nylon. Lots of adjustable padded inserts so you can configure the interior however you like. Does have some cons though. It has straps underneath to carry a tripod but when I tried it out it was very cumbersome and did not feel very secure there. Also the plastic on the straps make an annoying squeak and there is no where to put a water bottle. Otherwise I like this bag.

Try the tamrac velocity 5x. It's quite snug with the 5D mark I and your lens.
Pretty versatile too with both shoulder strap and waist strap options.

So all up a very featured and well thought out back pack, construction quality is excellent with durable materials used. Highly recommended to someone looking for a cost effective solution to carrying a bit more gear. Ideal for those who don't like the super large back packs made by other manufacturers. As you can see from my other posts I am a bit of a fan of the Case Logic bags, compact design, great price and fantastic features.

Good looking bag. How are the zippers on it? Does the fabric seem pretty durable?

Zippers are good, all have large rubber pull tabs making it easier to zip up, the zips around the camera (top) compartment are also weather sealed. The outer fabric is better than my crumpler bags, it's less cloth like and stiffer allowing the back pack to keep it's shape. I suspect the abrasion resistance will be also be higher. The moulded base keeps the bag upright all the time, unlike some back packs which are less stable.

I've purchased many bags since getting the 7D.
I had them all out today since I'm packing for a vacation.
Not a lot of time to take fancy pics, so I apologize.
But here goes:

domke f-3x is black, on the left. it's a wonderful bag. fits all the gear in my sig and plenty of room for personal items and accessories. yet, the bag is small!

edit to add, the f-3x fits the iPad as well....
more on iPad and the F-3X:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=886862

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/iMryanmac/camera%20gear/bags/f3x/IMG_4549.jpg

The bag also fits all the gear in my sig and plenty of room for personal items and accessories. All of this, yet, the bag is small! So that's two lens in the dedicated lens pouches in the main compartment. A third lens in the main chamber separated by a velcro pad that comes with the bag. And the 7D with any of my lens attached on it's side in the bag row. Total of 4 lens. My flash lives in one of the two large end compartments. The iPad in the front compartment. And there is still room for papers and personal items in the other end compartment and the back pocket. A fifth lens could live in the end pockets as well.

The iPad will also fit in the bag while in a protective sleeve. I don't believe it would fit in the pocket while in a leather wallet (a more sturdy/boxy case). It's that good a fit! The iPad will fit horizonal or vertical in the pocket, obviously horizontal is the ideal method. The iPad will only fit standing up vertically in the rear pocket, it is too long to fit horizonally.

view bag on b+h (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/15987-REG/Domke_700_F3B_F_3X_Balliastic_Shoulder_Bag.html)

Exterior Dimensions 12.5 x 7.25 x 9.6" (31.7 x 18.4 x 24.4 cm) (LxWxD)
Interior Dimensions Main compartment: 8.5 x 5.5 x 9.0" (21.5 x 14 x 23 cm) (LxWxD)

I have many camera bags, here is a link to see the collection:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=10262609&postcount=109

In my pics you may notice that I've used some extra padding/dividers from other bags (that I wasn't using them in). They are not completely necessary. But they were collecting dust and they make this set-up a little bit easier use and my gear a lil more comfy.

crumpler talle (green) is a very unique, rare bag with a lot of padding. the 7D fits in the top. I take all the dividers out. the secret compartment fits my 12-24 hreversed and 60mm or 85mm. The flash fits in the pocket in front of the compartment, or I can fold it and put it up with the body. more room for personal items+++.

lowepro compudaypack. my daily bag since I carry just 1-2 lens, 7D, 13"mbp, and personal items. I have tried to replace this bag 10X but can't.

lowepro slingshot 350 AW is for big day trips and traveling. It holds my 13.3 Macbook pro like a dream. It has it's own separate chamber, so the camera portion doesn't need to be opened to access the laptop. The photo section is big enough to hold all the gear in my sig, plus some. It's big but not huge. It has a waist and chest strap and the connect, even though it's a sling it's very comfy. It has two front pockets, one is great for personal items and a flash, easily. The other is smaller for remotes and phone, etc. It has a weather poncho.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/iMryanmac/camera%20gear/bags/the%204/_MG_3854.jpg
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/iMryanmac/camera%20gear/bags/the%204/_MG_3857.jpg

lowepro adventura 170 is for outdoor sporting events. It is weather proof. I can hold the camera and any of my lens. And also another lens/flash. It's similar to the 5mdh but not as bulky. It has a quick pocket on the outside, which the crumpler doesn't have. It's very cheap and has nice padding inside.

crumpler 3mdh is for going to indoor sporting events where I can only bring the 7D and 1 lens on it. good for tight quarters. It's the tiny brown bag. It holds my camera with any of my 3 smaller lens perfectly. if I have the 24-105L on, hood reversed, it fits, but it's tight. I usually take off the strap off the body for this set-up. I can even fit the flash in the small pocket in front of the body, and the strap barely reaches. it's ugly, but it fits. I prolly won't use this bag since I just got the next bag in the lineup:

domke f-10. maybe my favorite bag ever. just got it. fits the 7D and 24-105L hood reversed, laying horizonally, took 1 divider out and moved the remaining divider all the way over. my 60mm mac can fit in there. the flash fits in the front pocket. some room in the back pocket for papers and maybe some personal items. TINY bag. I included a HAT in my photo to show you how small this bag is. I only have 1 camera so I couldn't take a pic with the 7D in it. But if you have a 5d or 7d and need a really small bag, this is a great fit. The padding is a LOT better than I thought it would be. I don't need to worry about my gear in this bag at all.

burton photo/laptop bag. not sure of model, but it's waist strap is funny. but still a grea
t bag for a carry on. many awesome pockets.

owned and sold many. including the crumpler 5 and 6 mdh, way too big and $$$ for what they carry. not that domkes are cheap, but they hold a lot more, and I'm not throwing my bag around, so the padding is fine. also owned domke f-803.

I use the F-10 domke for 1 camera and sometimes I throw a flash or extra lens. I can fit any 2 lens and flash in this bag, and it's tiny, look at it!

I use the lowepro compudaypack EVERY DAY for my laptop and camera daily bag.

And I use the f-3x if I want to take all my camera gear and no laptop.

I use those 3 the most. And I love the 2 domkes a LOT, they are so small but fit so much and are VERY easy to use.

good luck

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4055/4681461840_ac985a7ae2.jpg

Items in the pack:
Canon T2i with lens, 2 extra lenses, Lee filter System, 4 Lee GND filters, 3 Lee ND filters, cleaning items. 2 small pockets for other small items such as cleaning items, memory cards, etc.

Tripod securely attached:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4071/4680830251_14facaa976.jpg

Overall this is a great camera bag. I don't think gripped cameras fit since my 40D is pretty snug in there.
One thing I love is that you don't need to remove the sling pack to access your gear.

Wish Incase came out with more slr packs!

I have the regular Pelican 1510 set up with the organizer lid and I love it. The cruzer version sold by casesbyPelican is great if you want to keep your computer in there also. I have a second 1510 LOC I use for travel and I keep my computer there. My computer is usually in a separate carry on. The best part about the Pelican is that you can take out all the insides and use it for other things as well. You can get the pick and pluck foam or the instant foam to secure and transport other sensitive electronics. Tough as nails and if it does break...and you can break them if you try hard enough Pelican will replace. looking forward to your review.

I got the Think Tank ShapeShifter yesterday, it's raining today so I've been packing and repacking to figure out the best system. It's not so much a bag you want to work out of as much as use it to get you there because of the secure way everything is packed, get it there, take it out and then keep the bag on your back when you're where you can't put it down.

I wanted it just for that and because I really like Think Tank, I am selling off many of my other ones now though, bye bye to my UD20, UD30, UD40, great bags, hold up like crazy but I'm a Retrospective Pinestone 10 kind of gal now and the ShapeShifter is when I want it all with me but trying to keep the weight down. Oh yeah, I've got a TT bag for my speedlight when I need to add it onto my R10

So in the SS I'm packing a Canon MKIII, 24-70L, 85L, 100-400L, 580EXII, Spare batteries, Memory cards, extension tube, shutter release, monopod, etc, etc, etc, lots of unexplored pockets left but it's heavey enough considering I'll be hiking up and down on ocean beaches and rocky terrain for four days, maybe in and out of the rain as well (rember to bring that rain cover that came with the SS in case we get stuck too far away to run).

When I went to the store this time to look at bags, (essentially a whole room sized area filled with bags of every description) I didn't bother to even look this time at anything but Think Tank, I think that highly of their design and construction and their freaking durability - yeah!

Eventually I'll probalby change my kit to the MKIII, 17-40L, 24-70L, 70-300L and leave the 85L all the time in the R10.

I too am rolling with the Think Tank Shapeshifter and Retrospective 10, as well as the Airport Takeoff backpack roller for when I have a portrait shoot with my gear in addition to my made-in-china "lastolite ezybox-rip-off" kit and a few hotshoe flashes. Think Tank makes great stuff and like you, my choices are limited now only to Think Tank or Domke, where the latter is ridiculously overpriced for the material durability that I might not need.

I'm an addict AND a pusher.

I have 11 products from Lowepro listed in my gear list, and I'm looking at buying another.

I'm still using that Tenba P595 I bought in 1987. It's indestructible.
