I think the concept you were aiming for is good.
But. It looks like the ear of the horse in the only thing in focus. I think having both horse and man in focuse would have been best but that is a lot to ask for in DOF. Failing that then just one or the other in focus, my choice of the two would have been the horse.
Also the man does not say cowboy. The shirt might pass for a cowboy style but the ball cap would have been better replaced by cowboy hat.
I like your lighting very nicly done.
