Nice crisp picture, clean colour (not to harsh) and super sharp.

what do the numbers and letters mean that are written on her arm?

Usually the words on the arm remind swimmers which events they are swimming and in what order.
I like this shot. Im not sure how high out of the water her start is, but one of my favorite shots for backstroke is to stand on the opposite side of the pool and shoot her while she is in the air.

Thanks for you comments, guys.

No, we never did that when I swam competitively. In fact my mom always told me never to write on myself. LOL.
I think it's a carry over from Triathlon where the racers write their race numbers on their bodies.
Cheers.

I've seen it a lot. Usually on younger kids so they can keep track of their heats. Some get carazy with the Sharpie and you get "eat my bubbles" and the like on their backs .
BTW - nice low shot - good stuff.

Josh, My son swims the backstroke, too. I find it VERY difficult to get good photos during his meets! Everything and everyone is in the way. Any tips?

Writing on the arms is VERY common for the youngsters...not so much for them but so the organizers can keep them all straight. The last swim meet I covered was several hundred kids under 9.. Im sure the writing helps.
Nice capture...I find those images sell very well
And the little ones love to write things on their back too...
