View Full Version : Pasture . . .

This is a view of the big pasture, near the Logan River this December past. I am looking west with the sun over my left shoulder . . . the storm front is moving in over the mountains, bringing the first winter snow that will stay on the ground. This quiet moment of serenity, before the storm, is always a special rite of passage. A time to enjoy and reflect on the season past and prepare, perhaps dwell on the cold and snow to face us until spring. I can feel the temp drop and the cows take their last mouthfuls of grass, before they are put on dry hay. Everyone knows the change is coming . . . everyone can sense the change in barometer pressure, nature is announcing the end of one season, the beginning of another . . . down at the pasture.

LOL, a writer . . . no, a farmer, I won't say, lol. I do drive a old pickup truck. Sometimes the dog is in the back, sometimes he rides up front with me. He loves to go take pictures too.
This is one of those golden hours shots . . . when the sun is such as to make the colors, even dried grass, glow with that look that can transfix one. Make them stop and take enough time to record the moment.

Very nice picture RJ. Would you consider taking this scene at different seasons? Might be an interesting project.

Beautiful shot. With the "kit lens" ? Every time I think that lens is only So-So, I see results that prove otherwise. I must use mine more often.

I joined this forum two days ago, and have been in awe of some of the images I've seen.
I guess day #3 is startin' out the same way...

Thank you guys . . . and I guess we need not be so hard on the 'kit' lens, it has its place as any other.

It is funny in a way . . . I thought there to be no interest in the 'South Forty' so to speak. Elk on the ridge? LOL, perhaps Gramps. I guess I could try to do a four season thing here, that might be fun.
My thanks for the kind response to this humble view of grass, cows and the mountain.
