So I was just browsing through my flickr and I noticed I was getting hit a lot by a specific forum. I did a quick google and found out someone had linked my image, which doesn't matter to me. Then I clicked a few more links and found out the performer had used my image as her profile picture on myspace.

Not going to put up links, because I don't want to make it into a big deal. But has anyone ever been in this situation, where you took images of a performance and the performer took the images and posted it online, no photo credit and photoshopped text over my image.

can you set your flicker account to private?

That would upset me also, I guess my advise it to tag all your photos with your signature or trademark.

I suppose legally she is in copyright violation and as such you could pursue the issue, but as she is also the performer and subject of the pic, she could easily start to decide that photographing her performance requires permission as well, not for this event as it’s in the past, but going forward. So maybe a happy middle ground could be found.

How about contacting her and letting her know that you see that she is using your photo and that you think at least you should be credited with the picture ot at least refunded the cost of the performance.

It happens to me from time to time with my sports photos. The players find them online and use them as their profile picture or whatever. It bugs me though when they don't credit the photo to me and bugs me even more when they create a whole album of my photos of themselves playing. I'm not going to do anything though as they are all team mates past and present and it's not like I was going to do much else with the photos although I will change the position of the watermark for the next season!

I might just leave this one alone, I suppose I'm honored she took my picture and used it as her main profile image / advertising image. It's not like I make money off photography, its just a hobby for me. I'll just start watermarking my images from now on.
