The two things that keep us in line...
These were taken from Corn Hill in Rochester during a recent snowstorm.
They were both shot in RAW with the 18-55 kit lens.
They were converted to jpeg in ps/cs.

Kind of like the church one. Not a big fan of color filters though. Did you use a soft filter or is that natural from the weather?
Jail . . . what jail? I see trees. I don't see anything in the pictures that would sudgest jail. Nothing to attract my attention to. The tree branches are a big distraction.

That was natural from the weather. The color was achieved by changing the white balance. The parking lto lights use a cooler(higher kelvin) bulb than the street lamps. I just adjusted the WB to a point where the contrast between lighting sources is evident. As shot, the photo as a sepia tone. I didn't think that portrayed the sheer cold, nastiness of the storm, so I decided to mess with it.
If you look in the background, you'll see a building with little black rectangles as windows. That is the Monroe County Jail in Roch, NY. The snow was blowing so hard it mostly obscured the veiw of, even though it is just across the expressway.
These were both take from my friend's apartment in Corn Hill. We often take the same shots and try to compare our results. It's a sort of informal competition/ongoing game.
Thanks,

Well, no disrespect, but those two images are worthless. The only good thing is in the first image and that is color, convert it to b/w and you'll see there's nothing there.
When you're about to take a shot, think about why you want to take it and how you want to take it in order to make it more appealing and to accentuate the subject and meaning. And when you're reviewing images looking for 'keepers' think in the lines of - would I want to print this image, frame it and hang it in my house/flat?
