yesterday while visiting the stud http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gifopshttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif I saw this thatched roof 'cottage' when I looked through a bramble thorny hedge http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

climbing up a grass bank to look down... this is what I saw

and that's as far as I could go
(or could get)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

no one is living there at the moment
it's probably up for grabs

as old as the hills
but the corner stone is everything

the shot of the yard with the bicycle is taken outside the student accom. at the national stud

Nice shots Marie;
The little cottage looks cute and the roof looks well groomed.
Love the colours in the one with the bike and would love to seem it in the spring when all the blooms are out.

The shots just dont do anything for me. There is nothing that cathes my eye in any of them.

no offence Marie, just thought I'd be honest.

http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif that huge kitchen bay window looks lovely too

thanks Sandy
I love to see these old 'houses'
it may have something to do with the grounds around the stud as I was in there when I saw the top of the thatch through the hedge
soon these places will be only a memory from the past

You're obviously 'into' horses, Marie. I used to breed Arabs a long time ago, and my first foal, a colt, was the spitting image of the foal you posted recently, but with four white socks. It's a shame because we were praying for a bay!

Martin.

they are beautiful creatures. otherwise I know nothing much about them.
this part of the country is special to racehorses.
they train and gallop on the plains every day
I just happened to be there that day and took these pictures (above)
lovely restaurant there also

hope the horse with the socks is still around http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif
maybe you had a bay since then...
but you say it has been years since this happened so ..probably not.

thanks Martin

My instantaneous impression was that the house looked like Moe from the three stooges... very cool. Makes me realize how boring houses in the US are.

Take it easy Marie,

John

Those thatched roofs look like so much work to build. Any idea how old it is? Did you shoot the whole house? I'd like to see it if you did. :) The mat on top of the trough is a bit distracting from an otherwise nicely composed and framed picture. (As if I don't have enough junk lying about ;) )

thanks a lot John.
I know what you mean re looking like one of the three stooges

there are nicer thatched cottages around the country

and there are plenty of houses which could be called boring here

but plenty are beautiful also.
this was just a surprise view through a hole in the bramble hedge.
I was standing on a grassy bank looking down
the cottage is ancient and unoccupied.
but lovely to see it at all as they are getting so scarce

I meant to make it clear that I had no choice when taking this cottage shot.
just a small opening in the thorny bramble hedge
no possible chance of showing any other angle of the cottage at all
which is why I thought it so funny just showing the top like it.
I love the thatched cottages and as they are a dying breed to suddenly see the roof sticking up on a winter's day made my day.
the roof was very worn out , very tired looking :(
I don't know it's age

the mat was there for a reason , probably to deter the horses from thinking they could go there and have a drink
or the students dittohttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I didn't want to touch anything as the students were going into the canteen for a meal and I was trying to stay 'out of the way'

thanks again
