Here is a shot from my Alaskan cruise last August:

And yes the ice really is that blue (no picture edits).
Taken with a Canon Powershot S300 (I really wish I had my 20D on that trip).

May be a dumb question. Why is it blue?

Well, if it fell from an airplane, it's blue because of the toilet water...

You'd be blue too if you were all alone like that in the middle of the cold sea. ;-)

*starts singing "im blue" by eifel 65*
May be a dumb question, but why is the water green?
What a weird shot. Good though.

Icebergs are blue because they have been so thoroughly compressed that no air bubbles are contained within the ice. Therefore, only the shortest wavelengths of light will reflect through the dense ice crystals, while the other colors of the spectrum will be absorbed. Since blue is the shortest wavelength of visible light, it passes through, and the glacier ice looks blue. This blue condition indicates that it is probably from a section of the glacier that is quite old. Icebergs that have been floating in the sea for awhile will begin to melt and become porous, indicating that it is losing its density. Any ice that contains air bubbles will reflect all wavelengths of visible light, making it appear white rather than blue.
Here is another one (wish I had a better zoom):

very nice
it's probably blue in the face (everything has a facehttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif ) trying to tell us over and over to ' be careful of our environment... or else lots more of us will be separating from the big ones ' (glaciers)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cry.gif
