I am having a focus issue while using this Canon Wireless Remote control (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Wireless-Remote-Control-Digital/dp/B00004WCIC/ref=pd_bxgy_p_img_b)

I have a Canon Rebel Xsi. I normally use the half-click on the shutter button to get the focus on my subject. And then click the shutter button fully to take the picture. But when I am using the wireless Remote control,
even though I can frame the shot but I do not have any control over where the red dot goes when I click the button (on remote control) to take the shot, this has caused a few shots where the main subject (like a person standing in the middle of the shot or on the side) does not get the sharp focus on him.

How can I avoid this issue. The only thing I can think of is to turn on the 9 point auto-focus feature in my camera when using the wireless remote control (which I normally turn to manual AF to select the one red dot myself with half click of shutter button)..

Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated !
Thanks.

I think your on the right track, when you frame the scene select the focus point.

Or preffocus and turn of auto focus.

Welcome to the cauldron Leo..

When using any type of remote triggering device it always advisable to focus manually..

Another thought . . .

If your aperature setting is not critical, manually select a larger f stop (smaller opening). This will allow a wider range of depth of field, and the likelyhood that you will get your subject in focus.
