I am heading to Smokey mountains, I am planning to take 16-35MKII with 40D, Struggling between 70-200 2.8 IS and 100-400 L,

Besides I have 50mm 1.4 & 85MM 1.8, 430EX, 1.4XTC leaving behind

I am not a nature shooter, Quick response is appreciated. Thanks!

For color either of those lenses will do. However, there is quite a bit of wildlife right now - the 100-400 is nice for that

We just got back from the Smokies. I don't think I put my 70-200 on the camera once, the 100-400 was on most the time. Of course, the color was not at its' prime a few weeks ago, so I was more focused on wildlife and flowers.

I would take the 16-35 for wider landscapes the 85 1.8 for dof close ups of nearby leaves and for artistic work and the 100-400 for isolating landscape shots out in the distance/isolating groups of colorful trees far away, wildlife shooting is ok if you see something but if it was me I wouldn't waste my time going looking for anything, there will be so much to shoot right in front of you
