I look at this and think it needs something, but I do not know what "something" is. I'm sure I'll get a bunch of ideas from everyone here.
Here are the camera settings:
Camera Model Name
Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL
Shutter Speed 1/40
Aperture Value 5.6
ISO Speed 400
Flash Off
Color Space sRGB
Noise reduction Off

I am having trouble getting the pic attached. I'll keep trying...

Think I've got it.

I am only a newbie to photography, but, the boy looks a bit blurry to me.

A much tighter crop might improve composition. Most of the image is superflous. Get in closer and shoot a larger aperture. and as mazza said It aslo looks a little soft.

I agree with clay, if you can reshoot, use a higher aperture value (which actually closes up the aperture), tighten up the composition a little, and shoot at ISO 100. Some of the softness might be noise, although I suspect it is from the DOF at 5.6. If you can't reshoot, the easy route would be to crop it to a tight portrait of the boy, but I would also try a landscape with the boy to left of the frame. Crop it just to left of his right hand and just above the roofline of the shed. Keep the crop with a 2x3 aspect ratio, and when you print it, no one will know. If I had access to this site, I would shoot my family all day long. They would probably want to shoot me...
