Thank so much for the comments Marie. The women who owned this, the land was a gift from her father, willed it to the State of Connecticut along with many more acres that she purchased. Along with a wonderful endowment for it's up keep. Here is a little bit of the history, more can be read on the link above.

"Upon her death in 1972, Edith Chase left her beloved country estate to the people of Connecticut and to be known as Topsmead State Forest. In her will, Miss Chase requested that Topsmead State Forest "be kept in a state of natural beauty". To ensure that Topsmead would remain undisturbed, Miss Chase left an endowment to be used toward maintaining and operating the buildings and grounds as they were upon her death."

It truly is a beautiful place and what a gift.

Here is a close-up of the door to the outbuilding, which I think maybe a spring house.

Well done. #2 is my favorite and the detail on the door is great.

very nice and great to see and hear about it, thanks Sandy

couldn't see any windows in the 'outhouse' so had wondered was it a nice shelter for gardening tools or vegetable storage or likewise..... once upon a time
