Well, I took some pix of the local band Luna Mortis, as I know the band, and they are pretty awesome (take Arch Enemy and mix them with Dream Theater)... and they recently got signed to Century Media.

The owner of Maximum Ink and I go back and we've chatted about cameras lately, and he saw some previous pictures I took of this band (http://www.moshpitradio.com/photos/luna-mortis-orpheum-stage-door-may-2008/)... (they are sponsoring their upcoming show on Nov. 1)
Some are decent, the lighting in that room that night was horrrrendous, and it was only my 2nd show shooting with my then brand new 40D....

I mentioned that I had some more, newer pix from a more recent show... so I sent him some 800x600's to see if he could use them... a couple weeks later, he IMs me with the link (http://www.maximumink.com/index.php/articles/permalink/luna_mortis/) to the new edition of Maximum Ink...

At first, I was all like, oh, cool, he linked a couple pix from the article, then I noticed the cover... whoa! I've been reading this magazine thing since they started! Attached is the cover, and the original below that... I think I just did a little sharpening, but they added a bunch of color stuff, and it's printed on newsprint, so even though I offered my full res. shot, he already used the craptastic 800x600! hah!... Anyways, no $$, but I got a credit on the acknowledgment page, I'm just happy to have something out there to brag about. So... thanks for reading!

Congrats!

It's great to see your work in print - especially a cover shot.

I hope you were also well paid for it!

Nice. Please do tell him Hi from me if you have the chance.
This is us on the cover back in '97 (http://www.maximumink.com/index.php/articles/permalink/bugattitype_35)(me on left). I miss Madison!

Well, that's why I'm not an art director ... they screwed your image. As for pay, if they get paid you should get paid ... it can be hard to require it but until you do no one will really value your work regardless of what else they say or do ... I know, I've been there!

for god's sakes, it's only newsprint, it's not like it's glossy 400 dpi or something... lol

not too mention, haven't you ever heard of Genuine Fractals!!!

Rokker!
Rock-n-roll, good to hear from ya' :-) I still love Wheelie King, too ;-) but all good things must come to an end sometime I guess.

I'm doing well in Seattle. 2 kids with a third on the way, staying busy, but unfortunately mostly staring at my bass these days in the corner vs. playing it.

Great to see that Max Ink is going strong. Hope you're doing well!

Congrats...

but based on what I'm reading they took your image off the web, altered it, used it without your permission, made a profit on the magazine....but hey they gave you credit!

almost...he sent them the image! :) Again the thrill of being on the cover will die down once he realized he's been used...
