Things to take note of...

My desktop computer, for all my internet and downloading needs.
Laptop just for photos, try to keep it clean of virus' so i dont lose everything.
My Lowepro Nova 3 AW, which is for sale in the sell forum btw *wink wink*
Next to the bag is my 580EX's case and the 50mm 1.8, had to put kit lens on for wide shot.
BH box on top of tv, which contained my 580EX and other little goodies.
Energizer charger in the bottom right which charges my 580EX's batteries.
Oh and last but not least is my Aviators, to look cool of course ;)

Okay, this is an update. I don't really recall the last time I posted in this thread, but much has changed.

I have my Mac Pro (under the desk) running the two 23" Apple Cinema Displays. My PC runs the Gateway monitor, and is hidden from view behind it. I do most of my business on the PC, and find the portrait format works best for letters, accounting, etc..

On the left, I have my All-in-one fax/scanner, etc., my HP laser printer, and out of the picture to the right is my Canon i9900 printer.

On the shelf above the two Apple monitors are an assortment of external hard drives. The 750G Seagate drive is connected to the Mac, and the rest are connected to the PC and are used to backup various things.

The iPod keeps me entertained, and my favorite possession of all---the autographed photo of the Orange County Chopper crew---is hanging on the wall.

Oh...I almost forgot...
The train picture on the left wall is actually a 1945 Pennsylvania Railroad Calendar with a photo of our car stuck in it.

I briefly played around with running both computers off one keyboard and mouse, but found it a hassle, and I have plenty of room for two keyboards, two mice, and my Wacom tablet.

This is a vast improvement over the old setup which was wedged in the corner of the office. I actually have a little elbow room now.

aLFaDaRK
15th of November 2006 (Wed), 20:06
Ah yes, Ultramon is for windows

Usually what windows does with dual monitors is use one as a primary monitor, and the other as a slave basically. You can put your applications on it and such, but you can't have a seperate taskbar on it, can't change the wallpaper for it, etc.

With Ultramon, it allows you to use both monitors almost as if they were seperate computers, besides the fact that you can move windows over between the two, use the same applications, etc. :P But it allows it to be much more functional (not to mention fit a hell of a lot more tasks) on the computer.

Welcome to the forum. You seem to make do with very limited space. I could probably learn from you.

The MacBook Pro is a honey. I picked one up a few months ago, and really enjoy it. I'm still getting reacquainted with the Mac OS, but it's coming to me.

Luke Johnson
27th of November 2006 (Mon), 07:33
Iv never used a mac before and i dont know anyone in person who does so it is a bit of a steep learning curve.
The space thing is an issue, because i do like to spread out and work in an organised mess so to speak, but my room is better than nothing. Im currently trying to compile a decent portfoilio of my work for two university interviews coming up so i have now taken over the lounge!

Detrimental
12th of December 2006 (Tue), 11:12
I got the table at officemax or office depot, or perhaps even staples, I am not sure, one of those office stores.

The case is a Thermaltake Shark case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133143

It is modded however, the side panels and top were repainted to a mirror like finish. At the top is a radiator with 3 120 mm fans that have been installed into fan mounts I cut out of the top of the case. The cool air from the room gets sucked in through the radiator pushed out the open side of the case with most of the other heat (its all watercooled).

I really like the desk though, if anything I would like one in the same style but even bigger.

AdamJL
12th of December 2006 (Tue), 12:27
Yep, I'm also very keen on that desk... a bigger one would be perfect, it looks like it's got an awesome finish.

Hmm, maybe I'll get my next case repainted and polished when I build my next PC.

Thanks for the tips!

This my cramped setup. It is a small room on the other side of our bathroom. Meant to be a walk-in closet. Since our place is small, we converted it into an office. As you can see we both have computers and desks. Ashley's old monitor finally crapped out. So that gave me an excuse to get a new one and give her my old one seen here. Should be here next Tue!!!!
And anyone with an eye for details, I am not running a mac on a dell. I miss my old mac, especially the style and layout, so I put a skin on XP to look and function like a mac.(style wise at least)

DELL 30" Monitor! Beautiful 2560 x 1600 resolution - 8:5 Ratio Wide Screen
Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 chip
4 Gb Ram (Have to wait to Vista to address it all, though. Can only see 2.75 Gb now.)
DVD Writer with LightScribe
8800 GTX Graphics

I had a drafting table that fits into an alcove in the office. (A closet when the office was a bedroom.) Built a shelf behind the desk for the monitor. I know that the monitor looks kind of small in the photo below, but that is a 42" wide table!

Another shelf for the PC to keep it handy. As an earthquake (<6.5) precaution there is a 1" Velcro strip running across the upper edge of the PC, from front to back, that keeps it snug to the wall. Another X-tra cool feature is the removable hot-swappable hard drive enclosures. Works like a USB drive, but at the speed of an SATA drive. When full, just remove and label the old drive and pop in a new one.

That is the one I am considering.

Radtech1
26th of March 2007 (Mon), 12:37
So far I have been very pleased with the accuracy. I use the Spyder for calibration. It runs a little dark for the first 10 minutes, then brightens up. I print at Costco using the Dry Creek profiles. No problems. The thing that I like most though, is that I can edit my 5d files at 50% and fit the whole shot on the screen. No more 16.5% or panning back and forth.

Nice setup, but I have one comment... Did you take these pictures for Apple's Marketing department? That desk is way too clean to be a real workstation. Why not post a picture of what it looks like after you've been working for for or five hours straight? ;)

Here's a real workstation, complete with helper...

To answer you question on how clean my workspace is, this is how I work - that picture was taken after sitting down working for three hours straight. I really do have a "paperless" office, the only other thing I really have on my desk at any time is either one of my cameras.

I love working in a clean environment. That is a clear representation of how I work :-)

It's funny, but when I was working in aerospace my tools were always laid out neatly and they each had their own place in my tool box. I always kept my workstation neat and clean. Now if you look at my home workbench or desk in my office, it's another story altogether...

Wow, that's neat. I would never be able to keep mine neat like that. Look at mine below, total mess :p

Here's the PC I'm using to edit my pictures, music listening and for any entertainment purpose. My super savvy setup. It's a 3 years old Dell Dimension that is soon to be replaced with either iMac or Mac Mini or Macbook Pro.

DELL 30" Monitor! Beautiful 2560 x 1600 resolution - 8:5 Ratio Wide Screen
Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 chip
4 Gb Ram

The sweetest thing about this monitor is that I can view the ENTIRE shot from my 5d at a 50% zoom. On my old 19" monitor, to see the whole shot I would be at a 16.7% zoom. Much less detail on the old one.

Now just work on how to configure the Wacom and I will be good to go.

Now things are finally starting to look like my setup! It isn't a workstation until you have to swat a cat or two out of the way to use it. Yours is still too clean, though. That ain't clutter...

Left machine:

6800 GT 256
120GB 7200 main drive
2x 500GB 7200
Soyo 24" monitor (far left)
Dell 20.1" monitor (top)

Right machine:
e6600 C2D
4GB RAM
8800GTS 640
320GB 7200 main drive
2x 500GB 7200
2x Soyo 24" monitor (middle, far right)

All screens color corrected with Spyder3 Elite. Logitech z5500's that's hooked up to both computers and can be hooked up a hidden ps2 slim (double sided sticky taped to the far right monitor and outputs to the Dell via S-Video).

Waiting on a few parts for new build. New motherboard and video card so I can run all 4 displays on one machine. Waiting for the new Core 2 Quads to build new main rig, then turn the e6600 into data server with the 500GB drives in raid 5. Just figured that with all of the screens, it's 10.98 MP worth of real estate. :)

I have OCD!

The room has an angled roof line. Rather than having an extremely short wall it is typical to install what is called a knee wall. You can then use that area for storage.

here is the room before moving in.
