very nice in2photos, you have the same chair as me, i hate it, what else is in the room (your office i presume?)
I am not fond of the chair either. It is a little stiff for my liking. I usually like to lean back a bit. Not with that chair!
As for the rest of the room, there is a couch (L-shaped) and an entertainment center as well as a coffee table and end table. The room is our bonus room above the garage. It is approximately 12' wide by 30' long. Still needs some personal touches. I have a few photos that I need to frame and hang and we are looking at building an area for my wife to scrapbook as well as adding some bookcases.

Sometimes I wish I had OCD like that, my office is a complete mess, and I always seem to lose things and can never find them when I really need them.

My office is in a constant state of flux. I posted this in another discussion elsewhere in the forum a couple days ago..
Okay......this is the neatest my office has been in quite a while, so I thought I'd share with you the challenge I face every day trying to keep it all working, and organized in my very scattered brain. Also, visualize all this running on a 20-amp breaker, and all the trips I have to make outdoors to reset it.

For your convenience, I have prepared a legend to identify some of the treasures in my mancave.
1. A Bose thingamajig that plays my iPods. Unfortunately, I really only have one iPod that seems to link to my library. The other three are for decoration.
2. Postage meter
3. Telephone
4. In Box (always full). Actually there are 3 In Boxes (always full) and no Out Box.
5. My MacBook Pro in its travel bag.
6. Cable modem
7. Ethernet switch
8. Apple Time Capsule backup/wireless router
9 & 16. 23" Apple Cinema Displays
10. PC (not visible behind monitor....not connected to anything, either)
11. Flatbed scanner. Note: Items 25 & 29 also have flatbed scanners, but they don't work in Adobe Acrobat where I really need them. Hence, the flatbed scanner which does work, for some reason.
12. Canon baseball cap
13. Brother label printer
14. External hard drive
15. Shelf full of junk
16. See 9, above
17. 30" Apple Cinema Display
18. Quad-core Mac Pro
19. Recycle bin (usually full of diet cola cans)
20. Support device for keeping butt off floor
21. (Hidden by support device) Eight-core Mac Pro
22. Card reader

24. Box of pencils (vertical)
25. HP LaserJet 4345mfp priner/copier/fax/dead weight
26. Canon i9900 inkjet printer
27. Box of pencils (horizontal)

34. Rolling cart with junk on it.

You should look into getting some LCD mounting arms for your three screens - I think it'd help you reclaim some nice desk space. I'd recommend something like the VM811 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2986774)

I posted this in the performing arts section, since that's where I hang out.. but was suggested to add to this as well...
Finally moved into the new house and got some time to set up the new "Studio". This is a combo Video/Audio/Photo editing space with a separate area for recording instruments and vocals. Not finished yet, still need to hang the wall treatments... but here it is.

This is the new London Blue Desk 5000 with optional Dual Monitor Stand and Dual Studio Monitor Speaker Stands.
The desk is 62" wide, and 32" deep. It comes with a cable tray lining the back. Built of sturdy 2x4's and 3/4 inch plywood, it will last a lifetime.
The Monitor Stand is 10" off the desk, 48" wide and 24" deep. Made of sturdy 2x10 stands with 3/4 inch MDF top, it too should last a lifetime.
The speaker stands are custom made wooden boxes on their side putting the speakers a healthy 12 inches above the surface of the desk at optimal hearing height.
You can own one of these desks for a cool $100 in materials and about 4 hours of cutting and assembly time.
PowerMac G5, 24" and 19" displays, M-Audio Studio Monitors, and Presonus Monitor Station not included.

No. You wanna know how many movies, songs, and images are stored on those?? Space is a precious, precious thing for me. I could easily count 400 movies on one single drive, and probably over 10,000 songs. Heck, I've got 3,000 songs on my laptop right now.
Besides, there's only 5 drives there, the silver one is an external dvd recorder. Makes it easier to copy stuff disc-to-disc rather than using the drive in the laptop. Maybe you should see the inside of my closet, where there are 8 more 1TB MyBooks unopened, waiting for the chance to make the lineup.
Do the two drives in the laptop, and the few internals laying around in the drawers count too?? I'm a dirty little drive-space whore :D

You guys keep all that data on external drives? You've got alot of faith in the reliability of those drives and their crappy PSU's (not to mention the mess of cabling!!)
I got burned too many times by drive failure, so it was time to build a fileserver...
I built a ~7TB fileserver in my closet, running FreeNAS (http://www.freenas.org/) + ZFS RAIDZ2 array with 2x hot spare disks in the chassis should a disk failure occur. I'd need three drives to totally die out of the RAID array before I lose data.
I also have 2TB of space on two more fileservers out of my apartment for "critical" data that needs backing up in case the place floods / burns down / gets invaded by zombies...
I do time machine (http://www.apple.com/macosx/what-is-macosx/time-machine.html) backups of all my macs over the network to this fileserver. I store all my music / movies / apps / junk on the fileserver, and that data is backed up offsite.
If any one of my computers dies ... no big loss of data - I just restore it from backups ... I don't store any local data on my systems.
Goodbye, external drives. You will not be missed:

Samsung 1TB HD's are ~$85 a piece @ newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152102)
I have 10 of them right now. The beauty of ZFS is that I can add more and more space to my existing storage pool without needing to do any extensive rebuilds.
I highly recommend FreeNAS + ZFS (or OpenSolaris + ZFS for unix junkies) to anyone here wanting to build a high performance, scalable file server for home / office use. It'll serve files to windows, mac, linux clients, do FTP server, bit-torrent client, itunes sharing, UPnP, and more

Yeah, I think I'll definitely take that route when I do decide to upgrade. 2TB is more than enough for me with just stills, but once I dabble with HD video, I'm going to have to upgrade.

How is 5.1 speakers set up like that? Does it give off a dodgy sound or is it pretty fine?

The 5.1 speaker system works fine. I don't really use it to watch movies or anything like that so "surround sound" isn't really necessary. Most use them for music, etc.. and they work fine for that. Put out a decent amount of sound for a $50 setup :)

I finally got a concealed carry permit, and the .45 is my first choice. I don't have a 1911, though. I have a Sig, and it works okay. I do have a 10mm Gold Cup, but that guns too nice to throw in the glove compartment.

Not only do you not toss around a Gold Cup, but 10mm isn't exactly plentiful or cheap. .45 is my preference, as well, obviously. Some ask why, and the answer is simple. Because shooting more than once is just silly.

22. Card reader
23. Treasured photo of the Teutul family (autographed)
24. Box of pencils (vertical)
25. HP LaserJet 4345mfp priner/copier/fax/dead weight
26. Canon i9900 inkjet printer
27. Box of pencils (horizontal)
28. Uninterruptable power supply (battery backup)
29. Brother MFC9420N color laser printer/fax/copier/mistake
30-33. In no particular order, Blu-ray player, VCR to DV dubbing deck, DVD player, cable box.
34. Rolling cart with junk on it.
35. (behind desk leg) Uninterruptable power supply)
36. Repossessed by finance company
37. Ugly valence
38. Mickey Mouse (music box plays theme from Mickey Mouse Club)
39. Canadian moose (Beanie Baby)
40 thru 45. 42" horizontal files (where most of the mess is now hidden).

I used to think you could never have too much screen space. Now I'm not so sure.
With hardware like this I would definitely want to try for a "wall of lcd". Maybe getting mounts for all 3 and putting the 2 23" side by side on top and the 30" under.

That is okay, but you still need a backup of that NAS or it is useless. The problem with most external drives is that people buy the cheap ones. you really need to get a box and put enterprise level drives in or you are severely putting your data at jeopardy.
Doc
A very good point. For the OSX users among us, it's easy to setup Time Machine backups to an offsite Time Capsule or file server. MacMiniColo offers a great service (http://www.macminicolo.net/transport/).
My local fileserver is running a "raidz2" array (like RAID6), and has two hot-spare disks. I'd have to have two disk fail nearly simultaneously to lose data locally.
I personally have two fileservers hosted elsewhere with 1TB of storage each, and have backup scripts to "rsync" critical data (photos, music, documents) to each of these other servers.
As for picture content ... here's my work system. For the OCD among us, never, ever get monitors from different manufacturers with different panel types. The mis-matched colors drive me insane!

Yeah, the My Books are sort of there by default. I use them as a buffer between the Bose speakers and the monitors. Helps to minimize any magnetic interference that may have an effect on the monitors.
I sure hope there isn't any important data in those drives.

I never liked those kinds of external storage devices.
I prefer buying an internal drive and popping it into an external enclosure.

I've learned.. it wasn't the drive that failed, it was the software running the drive. It is sitting here on my desk, minus the case and been reformatted to NTFS from FAT32. I'll install it internally this coming week...

^^Funny thing is.. The Drives didn't really fail.
I have one of them reformatted and in my desktop as a second HD.
The extra "Stuff" failed... The MyBook part :)

Aiming for minimalism...
New desk. Cable management is good but not perfect. Waiting for the new computer to show up before I do it perfectly. I want to hide the subwoofer, mac mini and external drive. Tablet will go into a drawer when not in use.

My humble setup (Room)
Sorry for the orientation, bad quality, and bad panorama work. :X
on the left there is a bed (and the camera bag on the floor/inside the closet with other photography/computer stuff), on the right there is a tv and more shelve which host my camera related boxes)
Yet to come: new desk and an external hdd.

Mine is falling apart - large cracks. Need a heavy duty replacement soon. Chair is decent. Got it off Ebay at 1/2 price (compared to new) when the dot-coms were going bust.

Some awesome setups guys! Can't wait to get to a bigger room where I can fit some more screen real estate. I feel so cramped in my little corner, and I don't feel like getting a new desk since I'm leaving soon anyway.
Here's my temp setup I've been using for a couple weeks ever since post production for my latest film (I'm a filmmaker as well) began in earnest. Gonna upgrade to something nicer once I'm back in the states.

20" iMac (Mid-2007, 2.4Ghz C2D, 4GB RAM) and 17" MBP (2008, 2.8Ghz C2D, 4GB RAM), and iPad 2. Some external drives/enclosures.
EDIT: Lol, I just realized this thread is a year and a half old. It was listed in the official "Show me your..." sticky so I thought it was recent. Hope this gets people posting again, I wanna see those new setups! Haha.
