Hey all,
I just picked up my 1D MkIIn tonight, and after browsing through the manual and being absolutely blown away by the 45 focus points I had a few football related questions.
I was wondering how the tracking works and if it works with center point AF, I haven't found a relevant post yet but know there must be one out there. Anyone got any tips? It's a huge jump from my XTi but I'm confident that I can handle it.
Thanks!

Wow,
That is a serious jump. If I could afford it I would do the same thing.
What works well for me is center point only and learn how to track your target. Lots of people also recommend to focus with the * as well. I haven't tried that yet.
Congrats on the new camera.

Yeah, I focus with the *. Normally I just shoot the center point in servo. But what I'm hoping is that someone will have an article just to explain how it does what it does for my information. I would like to understand the process so that I may improve my thinking, if that makes any sense.
Also, look for used deals daduls, that's how I got mine.

Congrats Tim. I can't get into the mechanics but I concur that ctr. pt in servo is the way to go. Once in a while, I'll cahnge points up or down by one but not often. It'lll get things done at ctr pt and servo so dont overthink it, just shoot!!

I always use AI-Servo, and select the point which gives me the composition I need. For example, if shooting vertical, I'll select a focus point that I can overlay over the players face. Rarely will I just stick to center point.
