So, my day job is as an audio engineer. This past Friday, I was conracted to do some PA setup work for an contemporary (not modern) street art exhibition.

Since I always have my camera these days, one of the organizers saw it and asked me if I could take a few pictures during the event.

I has already been paid for the gig as an audio engineer.

I told her I was still kind of in the amateur stage but would be willing to try. This was about 3 minutes to doors opening and she was running around chasing caterers, djs and the like, so the discusssion was not very detailed.

Her co-organizer briefly during the event told me that we would discuss delivery of materials and payment after the craziness died down.

So I shot the event, AND did my regular job.

Now, the question being: what do I ask for compensation...what would 4 hours go for? I was told the usage would probably wind up being web only, and possibly some press..But, who knows.

I have not released any pictures yet. I'm actually still editing/converting the set.

any words of advice?

thanks in advance.

There are a lot of these questions doing the rounds and there can never be a specific answer ... have a quick search and you will find some great links on these forums.

In Simple terms, you need to know exactly what the images will be used for or your licence needs to state exaclty what the images can be used for. value the images commercially, the time you spent includes the time shooting , researching and PP.

Without seeing the images, understanding the genre or having any idea of the commercial environment for use non of us can really help.

Well done with getting the gig, provide quality not quantity and you may be able to lauinch a good little sideline as you do your PA work.

I changed your crappy, non-descriptive title. ;) Now, because you have a more descriptive title, you can look at the "Similar Threads" links at the bottom-left of this page!
Each link you visit should provide more links at the bottom. provide quality not quantity Excellent tip!

thanks foks...

here's a link to the collection so far. They aren't great, but I had to make do with what I had...5d with a 17-40f4L and a dying sunpak 383 (which I wound up ditching 1/2 way thru).

From just looking at the thumbnails they look like snapshots to me, a small step above someone with a P&S. Personally I wouldn't pay for them, but they're worth what you can get for them.

apparently you're not alone.

So, I'm drawing up a contract that doesn't stipulate a price, but I do need to retain copyright somehow right?

How do I limit usage beyond what the event organizers have planned (which to be honest, they haven't even gotten back to me on.)?

thanks
