Hello,

I'm new in the world of digital photography and I have one question, I hope you can help me.

Let's say my memory card is full and I can't afford to buy a new one at that precise moment and place.
What can I do to empty my memory card soon to carry on taking more pictures?
Is there any device that I can simply plug into my digital camera to transfer all the pictures inside? This way I would empty my memory card in a moment and I'd be able to carry on taking more photos.
I don't know if I'm asking too much because I don't know anything about this digital world, but if something similar to what I've suggested exists, please let me know because I need to buy it.

How can a pen drive help me when I'm away from home on holidays, taking lots of pictures? My Sony digital camera comes with a USB cable and when I need to see or save my pictures, I just plug this cable to the camera and PC.
I'm thinking, can I plug this USB cable to the pen drive and camera (instead of the PC and camera) when my memory card is full to transfer all my pictures to the pen drive? If this is not possible, maybe because the pen drive has no USB port for the USB cable to be plugged, how can I use it then? Going to an internet-cafe, plugging the camera to a PC with the USB cable that I have and once all the pictures are inside the PC, plug the pen drive and transfer the pictures to the pen drive???????? It's a bit too complicated because maybe there is no internet cafe around when you need it.

I hope there is another way. I hope you can help me out.

Thank you very much.

Portable Storage Drive.

You plug your CF card into it, and the files are copied to a small hard disk. When you get home, you plug the Portable Storage Drive into your computer and transfer the files there.

Otherwise, get more CF cards. They are pretty cheap these days.

Thank you very much for your post, it has been really helpful.
Where can I buy one of those? Are them very expensive?

Thanks.

A cheap option is to go into an internet cafe with either the camera and the cord, or with a card reader, and burn the photos onto a CD. Make very sure the CD burnt properly before you erase the card though, preferably make 2 copies, mail one home, and keep the other in your room. CDs don't like a lot of light, so keep them somewhere dark and cool.

Hello,

Thank you very much for our posts. You guys are great, nice advise.

Can I use a USB2 flash pen drive instead of a CD to temporarily store my pictures (just until I get home or something)?
How can I use a pen drive? Going to an internet-cafe, plugging the camera to a PC with the USB cable that I have and once all the pictures are inside the PC, plug the pen drive and transfer the pictures back to the pen drive????

I'm very interested in knowing how helpful a pen drive it would be for me because I have a voucher entitling me to a free one, but if it's not a good option for me, I can always choose another free product.

Thanks.

Most of the USB flash drives aren't that big. CDs at least you can just burn another one. Your USB drive would need to be bigger than your memory card to be of much use. Using the flash drive, you would, as you figured, need to get access to a computer with two free USB ports (or carry a USB hub), and either hope that it recognizes your camera or carry a card reader as well.
