Great shot on both! I like the second one especially. How did you do the color/b&W effect? I know it may be complicated, is there a tutorial out there on PS that can get me started on this?

That second one's a mandarin duck, we have those here in England too. Here's a shot taken yesterday of one in the wild while I was testing the new 400mm f/5.6L.
I guess it works :)

Thank you! I gave it a try and it works nicely. Seems like you need an optical mouse ( I have a ball mouse) to keep the brush steady enough to follow an edge?
I'm trying to "colorize" just my daughter, and there are "whisps" of her hair I cant seems to get colorized without doing some of the background.
Any advice? Some different king of brush which is more forgiving?
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

Jeff,
Zoom in real close and use as fine a brush as you need, right down to 1 pixel if you have to.
Another tip for when you are zoomed in...if you push the pause button a hand will appear as the cursor, you can now left click and hold to drag the picture along.
Hope that helps,
Martin.

thanks guys! i didnt know that was a madarin duck! but i like the colors of the feathers! my photo is not actually in the wild as you can see from one of the legs that he has an orange tie strap, i guess thats how the zoo tags them.
as to how it was done i just masked the duck and did an invert selection and turned it to b&w using channel mixer. its good to know other methods! :)
