Haha how cool. If that is your dog I would so frame it! It even looks like he / she is smiling!

He is my dog (and my girlfriend's). We've had him two weeks yesterday. He is from an RSPCA rescue centre and he will be 6 months old on Tuesday. More pics here....

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't think the "No strings" shot is the best of the bunch, but it is kind of weird looking - good for a laugh :)

I'm hoping to get some better light to have another go at shooting some more action sequences and really try to nail the focus and composition as well. This was my first time shooting a dog on the run and I didn't know what to expect in terms of focus performance from my 40D. To be honest I had concerns that it would underperform quite badly with the black dog as a target, but I'm very pleased with these results. I'm hoping I can get better results with more light and a lower ISO.

Here's another daft example....

and a more conventional shot....

Settings? Servo, right?

AI Servo, AF-On button, manual exposure. 70-200 f/2.8IS at either f/4 or f/2.8. ISOs varying between 400 and 1600. Shutter speeds all over the place but mostly at 1/1000 or faster. If you look at the individual photos in the online album, such as this example....

then you can see the EXIF data by clicking "more info" over on the right of the web page. Of course, that won't give the AF mode, but I am nearly always in AI Servo mode and use the AF-On button as necessary to either track a subject or, with a brief press, to accomplish a "One-Shot" style of AF.
