Hi all,

The lovely Rohini, a colleague and friend of mine agreed to sit for me and my ever-patient girlfriend assisted for me. We did the shoot in the park at historic Newstead House, near the Brisbane River.

Last week I finally made the leap from the trusty G3 to a 20D. To start with, I have a single lens, the 50mm f/1.8 II some shots were taken with the buit-in flash but a few were with my 420ex flash to fill. The 50mm is great, but I found myself often wanting a wider lens.

Any comments or feedback on my photos will be greatly appreciated.

rock.. nice pictures. i like your composition and colors.

i have a questions or comment... so you shot this very cute woman(is she single?) and the gf helped out? and she wasn't jealous? i'm betting then that your gf must be quite the extraordinary woman.

Very nice! A little fill flash would have helped in a couple of them.

Nice pics.

Smart choice to only get the 50mm... Your next lens may be... 24... 28... or 35... then you'll be a prime snob ;)

My first pics looked very similar.

Nice pics

I don't have to tell you that a couple of them are dark, but most are quite nice. The last one is my favorite, but probably for all the wrong reasons.

Lovely model.

BTW your not the Angus Young are you?

Yes I am. Angus Young, photographer. Not Angus Young, rock guitarist.
As a side note, my father's name is Neil Young. Entirely unplanned on both accounts.

so you shot this very cute woman(is she single?) and the gf helped out? and she wasn't jealous? i'm betting then that your gf must be quite the extraordinary woman.

Yes, she is single and yes my girlfriend helped out. I am fortunate enough to have a very gorgeous girlfriend, who does not get jealous http://www.rocksluts.net.au/images/potd/feb05/IMG_2171_e.jpg. Probably because she knows that no one else would put up with me :D. But yes, she is quite extraordinary.

Thanks to everyone for the comments so far. I was disappointed that the batteries on my 420ex did not last very well, but that's whole other story.

i think the lighting in the first shot was the best. although all were good. having a model like that helps too!!

Yeah, it does help having a 20D and a beautiful model to make you look like a pro;)
Curious if the darker pics were taken with the built in flash? The lighting in a handful of them(1,5,6, and 10) is really pleasing. Was wondering if they were the 420? BTW, excellent composition....

Great job!

Pardon me but isn't the background on pics 3,4,6 and 9 distracting.

The rest of them do have good composition.

On 4 & 6, yes the background might be a little distracting. On #4 I think the sailboat being more properly exposed than her face is whats distracting, not that the boat is there, but that it seems to be the focus per exposure, but not 'in-focus' and so it is distracting. On #6 the light on the ground is too near her eye. I don't think #4 or #9 background are too distracing though.

BTW, #5 &10 are my favorites
