After 35 days and over 3400 pictures taken, the battery finally got to the point where I felt I had to recharge it. It still did not run out, but It was showing low and I was at a point I felt I needed to change it. After all taking pictures is more important then finding out exactly how many shots the battery will take.

That is one fine battery/camera combination; NP-E3 in a 1DsMkII.

I am truly amazed I could get that many pictures on one charge.

Now if I could have had a model that smiled better it would have been a great photo session. Still got some great pictures, just not as high a percentage as I would have liked.

Oh and I think my Lexar 40x (silver) messed up again, but I it might be my computer this time as it was having problems making the archive DVDs last night. Only 4 for this shoot, I must be slipping.

Any way thought I would share.

Well isn't your battery the size of a brick? It shouldn't be too surprising..

Yes, but after using the 10D with BG-ED3 and 2 BP-511s for a couple of years and only getting at most 500 pictures before I had to recharge, getting over 3400 is a huge jump, especially given the file size on the new camera has doubled as well.

It is still impressive to me.

That same brick sized battery only got you about 400-450 shots in a 1D "classic",..
And about 1300-1650 in a 1D MkII,.. I'm impressed that the 1Ds has even more power savings than the 1D MkII ,.. would have thought the opposite was true,. especially as Canon does not seem to be mentioning any changes in the battery life for that Camera from the 1D MkII.

It is very impressive indeed!

Do take into account that most of those shots required little if any auto-focus and only a few IS shots were taken. So that may have made a difference. Plus using a faster card may or may not also be making a difference as it requires less time to record the picture on the flash card. Plus brand new battery, fully charged.

Secondly I have noticed I usually tend to get lucky with camera and computer equipment. I usually get a good version of whatever it is, but every once in awhile, it turns and I get the equipment from h...

I can get over 2,000 shots on my 1DMKII quite regularly. I average 1,800-2,300. That's quite impressive for the 1DsMKII to get almost twice that.
