I seem to really love black and white photos for engagement pics.. Certainly not all the pics, but the majority of them are B&W.

For those who do alot of these photos, what do youre customers most often prefer!?

This probably doesn't answer your question, but why don't you shoot RAW and provide both versions? Even if you shoot jpeg, you can shoot in color and PP to B&W.

Is there a reason why (other than less PP-ing) people shoot in B&W mode?

Sorry to thread jack.

Vthokie, you're making an assumption that Marcus shoots with the camera in B&W, almost no-one does that, they'd process them to B&W later.

I present whatever I like, but on high res CDs for weddings I do everything in color, and some in B&W/sepia.

Yeah I've got a nasty habit of assuming things, but I wouldn't say that almost no one shoots in the B&W mode. I would assume if almost no one shoots in that mode, Canon would have gotten rid of that mode by the 40d. :) I agree that it doesn't make any sense because you could PP color photos.

I would give them the option of both and let the client decide, but I am no expert. Tim does this professionally, so I would definitely take his advice.

Ok, i'll say "no-one I know would use the B&W mode". It doesn't affect RAW files anyway.

I don't think Canon get rid of features, they just bury them in menus.

I personally put everything in color and then make black & white versions of 99% of the shots, with a few extra lightroom color effects thrown in here and there.
