G3 to a Pro 1

I'm thinking of upgrading and was wondering about the Pro1. Is there a Pro 2 coming soon?

Hi Reigh, dont know when the new replacment is coming, if not announced this week at the show it will probably be awhile. I can tell you that I really like my Pro1. The L lens really makes some excellent photos. Just make sure if you get one to do the firmware update, its a big improvment.

I would like to add that I am looking to sell my Pro1 that has barely been used 2 months in the marketplace section. It is an excellent camera and like mike said.. the lens is incredible.

I agree the lens makes a big difference. Bought it for my son to give him a high quality P&S with more advanced features and he enjoys it alot. The zoom is good quality too. I would recommend the jump especially with the firmware, makes a huge difference.

i probbaly wouldnt recommend the jump, unless you have that money just laying around to blow.

8mp is way too much for that sensor, 400 iso is useless. (any thing but 50 is pretty bad)

i think the g3 is a great camera for a p&s.

It all depends on what you are shooting. The Pro 1 (I have one) is an excellent camera, but if you do get it, spend some time working with the camera pushing its limits before you have a need, i.e. don't buy it on Friday night and expect to shoot a wedding on Saturday and think you will get great photos. Yes, I had someone ask me what camera to get for a wedding the next day and I have seen it asked here.

Every camera has its strengths and weaknesses. The good photographer is the one with the better knowledge of his/her equipment, not the better equipment. I have some shots from my G3 and Pro 1 that I have yet to duplicate with my 1D Mark II as I am still learning the camera and lenses.

If you really want to spend $900 on a camera, you may want to consider the DRebel or save a little longer for the D20. If you are really set on the P&S format, check out the G6 as well. Try them both out and see which you like better. Hopfully you have some kind of store near you that you can get your hands on the cameras before purchasing one.
