Has Anybody had any good experiences with the halogen quartz lights from Home depo?
They come in 500w (KEY) and 250w (FILL) and 150w (BACKGROUND and HAIR). I could get all this for under a 100 bucks.
I normally use photoflood bulbs for portraits and get excellent results once WB is taken care of. The price you cannot beat compared to strobes.
Agreed they do not look all that "professional" but money is an issue.
Any input?

Check over at Fred Miranda (http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/).com, users refer to them as "Home Depot Bees".

I have used them a little.
The biggest problem is the heat.
They are very very hot.

I started off on Home Depots, but i had to have air conditioning (i have central air in my house now) to cool down the room as they pack lots of heat.

I used these lights for my campus cooking show. They are hot when in use, and for a while after turned off.
Spend a little extra for the contractors grade of lights. They are more sturdy and often come in a metallic charcoal finish. Almost professional in appearence. The first I used was two on one bar, and a second on the ground for fill light behind me. Worked excellent

You can also look into metal halides and full spectrum fluorescents which are supposed to be even whiter than halogens and not nearly as hot. I planned on trying that out but never got around to it.

I have seen metal halides , they are smoking bright, heck guys grow pot with them! lol The photfloods I got are bright (pretty much blind the subjects) I cant imagine going any brighter. What a drag. Strobes are the thing but the price sucks. Four of them for a portrait would break the bank.
