I was asked again by another friend. Who says shooting for free isn't a valuable experiance. If I ever did shoot for money (way far off from considering) I would have to have a bastard child clause... the oldest kid was a devil child. Choking and draggin his sister around... I am surprised I managed to get what I did... I think a few of them are a little too blown out. but I was not given a lot of options... I took 1.5 hours to get about 40 pictures...On a paid shoot I think I would have walked away....LOL but
anyways... please don't hold back this is only my second time doing this for friends.

Sounds like a stressful shoot. Here's what I reckon:
1) Would have been good but focus is on her hands not face.
2) Nice shot, I think a slightly tighter crop would improve it.
3) Compositionally the best & the most 3D looking - difficult to be sure at web resolution but I'm not sure whether focus point is spot on (typo correction) or not. If it is on the original, then well done!
4) At F2 you have to be perfect with focussing & in this case you weren't, sadly, The hand is sharp the eyes are soft - otherwise nice image.
5) Slightly forced smile and I'd have preferred a lower viewpoint - perhaps taking photo while lying on floor yourself?
Hope this helps,
Phil

Phil,
Thanks Great input. Best I have received by far.
3. What do you mean by focus point is Spot or not. I used my center point or single point focus and recompositioned where possible. I shot in AI Focus.
5. I was laying down for 15 mins and could not get him to behave. I sat up and bam there was the picture he behaved for like 3 shots.... too bad I don't think I was steady enough. I went to step down to f4 or 5.6 I think and he got up and ran away... argh...
again thanks for the input. Surprisingly the mother is impressed with these and I am really unhappy with them myself..but she showed me the ones she paid for as school photos and they were horrible.....all I could think is ....The photographer that did those was probably horrified at the boy.
My wife is still horrified. We had some pumpkins out to take pictures of... ones we were going to use for carving... and the boy booted my wife's pumpkin and buried his foot in it...my wife... not very happy...:) I sort of giggled a little but the signified the end of the shoot.

I tried not to shoot him beating up his cute little sister.

Glad you appreciated the comments.
Sorry about the typo on number 3 - I simply mean I can't judge from the web-sized shots whether the focus is absolutely accurate on the face (well, the eyes). If it looks sharp on your screen viewing the full resolution images then you have a good shot in number 3.

Sounds like hard work. Here is what I think. #1 is good pose, OOF. When I shot ben I have mary stand directly behind me. #2 my favorite but under exposed, #3 good pose under exposed, her eyes look tired, #4 good shot a little over exposed, #5 Is a good shot would be better if you were at the same level as the subject. Should crop out the top half.

I like shots 1, 3 & 4. It would have been better if they/he was being have. Is he by chance 4 going on 5? My oldest is and ALL he can do these days is piss his 2 year old brother off and beat him up. The fighting is about to drive me to the nut house!!

haha... yes he just turned 5 this last weekend I believe.
I won't post the picture I took where he dropped a pumpkin on his sisters head but it was kind of funny looking back a few weeks later now.
Thanks everyone. I actually have been asked to shoot this family again for their family Christmas photo. The father should be home this time and I think that will help.
