Hey everyone! This is my first time posting here.

Anyways, I currently have a Digital Rebel and am thinking about upgrading to the 20D. I usually use my Rebel for actions shots like sporting events. Lots of fast moving objects. Plus I like to use them at parties. Do you guys think it's worth it to upgrade???

Yes especially when You are into sports and fast action.

The speed of 20D is amazing compared to 300D. I had a 300D and upgraded to 20D. Have not regretted for a second.

Remember to get at least one fast compact flash card. With 20D the speed of the card is essential as it can utilize it which the 300D can not.

The most important question: Are you feeling limited by your DRebel?

Selectable AI Servo focus mode, faster autofocus and faster frame rate make the 20D a considerable improvement over the original DRebel for action photography. I see no advantage for parties - except perhaps less noise at high ISO's if you're trying to shoot without flash.

You should certainly consider the new DRebel XT ... it resolves most of the limitations of the original and is significantly less expensive than the 20D.

Yes most of the time I do feel limited. I do like the AI Servo mode when in sports setting but I can't change any settings with the Rebel when in that mode. I want to be able to adjust my shutter and aperature settings. Even sometimes at parties I feel limited since people are moving/dancing and the AF could be a little faster during those situations.

In addition, the speed of th 20D's 5 fps would be much better for the Rebel's 3 fps. Not sure about the XT's fps but I have considered it as well.

I already have 2 1G compact flash cards. :)

I guess the question is more "what do you think?" You obviously have looked at the specs of what you have vs the 20D. Is there something you want to do that your camera won't do and the 20D will? I've been a Canon shooter for more than 40 years and I've never jumped from one model to the next simply because it was new. Perhaps you need to see the "next generation" of Canon releases before you make that decision.

Stop thinking, and go get yer'self a 20D ;-)

The simple fact that your asking just shows that it's only a matter of time.

The longer you wait now, the longer it'll take to upgrade from there

If your shooting ice skating,. in that kind of lighting ,. you will definately benifit from the 20D's superior high ISO images.

Most notably, the ability to switch AF modes and also the 5 fps of the 20D vs. the 3 fps of the DRebel. I've used my DRebel at ice skating shows and hockey games so the extra speed would help.
