For those of us in the USA there is a special on NBC tonight about the first five years of Saturday Night Live.

For those of us who were old enough to stay up late on Saturday night to watch it, this was groundbreaking comedy at the time. They have done well to keep the show going from then until now, but those that followed had big shoes to fill. Weekend Update, Samurai Deli, Landshark, Coneheads, Blues Brothers, I could go on and on.

I know where I'll be tonight...

Those old ones are classics - absolute classics.

Yup, I'll be there to. I've never counted but the amount of SNL'ers that have went on to successful movie careers is mind boggling.

Geez, they were some wild times - crazy antics, substance abuse, wild sex - and that was on the viewing side of the TV screen :o

Unfortunately, this show-about-the-show was too much talk and not enough clips. In two hours, they probably had about 10 minutes tops of actual footage from the shows. Just one talking head after another. I'm sure it was more fun for them to make than it was to watch.
