Hi.....

I was just taking some photos, and lost like 50 due to "corrupt data". I just got finished reviewing the 50 of them, and took 1 last picture.....then I got the error 2, and a corrupt data message on the LCD.....when I went to check the 50 shots that I previously reviewed, they were ALL corrupted. Anyone else ever had this happen to them? How long typically do these cards last? The card DID last a while I guess. I got it in October of 2003 when I got my 300D. Its a PNY 256 MB CF, and probably ran 2500 pics through it.
Funny thing....Im in the process of selling my police department where I work on digital (see previous thread), and one of the points used was how reliable the format is. Pretty scary, occurred without warning......

Regards,
Bill

I have never had a problem with a CF card....then again, I am always looking for the newest and best, so maybe I don't keep them long enough to find out. I have however, had similar problems with a SD card on my P&S camera. I could format the card, and it would hold well for about another 50 pics, then start corrupting them again.

Hopefully someone else with a similar CF card experience can give you a hand. I would think that if you did end up selling your PD on the digital route, that you may want to have them budget in periodic card replacements as a "preventative" measure against this type of issue. Lord knows, the last thing you want is to lose a whole slew of crime scene photos during an important investigation......I think if they look at how much film they go through in a year, that replacing the cards periodically would not be that much different financially.

Good Luck..

I have a 2gb Lexar 80X that "catches" me every now and then. I lose data then, it operates perfectly for a while and I forget about the problem as I cycle through my other cards, a 1 gb Sandisc Extreme 11 and a 2GB Sandisc Extreme 111. No problems with those nor with various smaller 256K cards I used to use.

I always reformat the Lexar (and my other cards) in the camera after I have transfered the files to the hard drive AND burned to a CD. What my workflow has been lacking up to this point is verifying what I got on the computer prior to reformatting.

The last time this happened with the Lexar, I made about 35 images in the Iowa town of Amana. I had reviewed the images on the LCD and they were present and in good shape. I went on to shoot a basketball game in Ohio on the same card and when I transferred, all the Amana images were gone but the Basketball game images were fine. I hope I have learned my lesson and will review images on the computer prior to reformatting the card.

Also, when I have an opportunity, I will discuss the problem with the shop in which I bought that problem card.
