Can this be used on a single shot, or does it have to be a three-shot burst or something to get the range?
I'm a newbie to this (and HDR), but I'm interested.

This affect is obtained by a single exposure, and either a lot of pp or a plugin such as Lucisart

I'm a newbie to this (and HDR), but I'm interested.you can use this on a single shot but most people create a seudo HDR by using one image in programs like Dynamic-Photo HDR then applying lucis art to that image in PS. I have posted two images using this technique
