View Full Version : Why do I have so much trouble with the Canon website?

When I start from this page (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SiteMapAct&keycode=model&functionid=3&fcategoryid=301) and click on the 5D, it defaults to the download tab where it says "...loading" but never goes any where. I can not click on any other tab - it just hangs.
But when I click on another camera such as the 30D, it works fine. Tabs can be clicked and so forth.
I have tried messing with firewalls, soft and hard; cookies; pop up blockers; script securities - nothing.
Anybody else have this problem and if so, what is the solution?

Worked perfectly for me.
Why don't you try going in from a different direction, say, from the 5D specifications.

Appreciate it. I tried it and it worked after a few tries. Unfortunately, it doesn't make sense. I now get a message that says downloads and manuals are not available for the 5D.
However, on this page (http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/canon_dpp_32.html) in the footnotes it reads like firmware updates are available, hence the quote: "...and EOS 5D camera whose firmware version is 1.0.5 or older..."
Oh, well. Over to the hardware forum. Again, thanks.

Try going directly here:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=11933#DownloadDetailAct

20roger,
Thanks. I sent a reply to your PM but since then found out it was Zone Alarm that was restricting my access and have been able to resolve the url.
I'm curious what the difference between the above and the original USA site is, and why the original usa site has no 5D updates and this one does. I would like to go to know how to go to this site in the future.
Sad - the USA site seems to be poorly maintained. Another drop in the bucket of things Canon does wrong.

I got there by going to http://www.usa.canon.com/home, the basic Canon USA site, then clicking on "Products -- Consumer -- Digital Cameras", then clicking on the "See them here" for EOS Cameras. This takes you to the EOS Systems page. (Actually, I lie. I have the EOS Systems page bookmarked, but the idea is the same.) Once there, click on "EOS 5D Digital", then click on the "Drivers and Downloads" tab.
And yes, I too have found the Canon USA site to be somewhat poorly maintained, at least compared to Europe and Japan.
