My S50 has been working well for more than a yr and now certain modes on the dial do not work (like movie, stitch, Portrait) - the camera shuts off when the dial is turned to these settings. Then there are problems with the menu where I can see the 3 high level ones, the moment I choose one of them or try the scroll keys the camera shuts off again. There are several other things that doesnt work like - moving onto the next image in the review mode (previous image works). I can only zoom in to a image and not zoom out etc.
Has anyone seen this behaviour? it'll be 2 yrs in May since I bought the camera and hence it's out of warranty. Any ideas/sugg before I call customer service and send the camera for servicing?
cheers

Did you had any accident with the camera ? or it stopped working normally by itself .. ?
You may also want to check/think whether it will be economical to get your camera repaired or bite the bullet & go for a new one. Out of warrenty repairs are sometimes more expenive & unjustified than renewel.

had mine for over a year no probs....best damb camera (P&S) I ever had. U prob need to take it to Canon and get its guts replaced. Up herte in Canada they charge a flat rate to fix it. I never saw anybody pay less than 200 for even the simplest problems at the counter. They just replace the parts no bothering to "fix" anything..

Called canon support and they would have charged me $150+parts+labor for fixing it (out of warranty period). Was considering fixing it, when the canon rep told me about an upgrade program from S50 to S70 for $250/- + $10 shipping and thought that's a good deal . So i went for that ... am now a powershot s70 owner.
PS: the upgrade s70 camera is a factory refurb with a warranty of 6 mos. all you need to do is return the camera body alone (prepaid mailing label incl) and they send a entire set (minus the 32MB CF card) ... so i have a spare charger, spare battery, and the entire s70 box

I wonder if canon is on high side with their offers on their factory refurb camera's .... saw a lot of these lately.
