Where were you that race?
That was a fun race. We got runner up in A/Gas.

Were those from the WCHRA race a few weekends back? I didnt go. wanted too but had other stuff going on. Did you get any pics of the GN on its lid?
Took that one Sat night when we had the big dawg shootout.....no traction at all, but ended up running a 7.97@180 during qualifying. It was a little something a few racers put together for grudge night.....

Here is a twin turbo Camaro out of Southeast Texas on a 10.5" tire. These guys were running this past weekend in the 160 to 170mph in about 4.7 seconds in the 1/8 mile.

OUCH, i saw some of the vid clips of chris getting out of the groove in the gn but it only showed the last part of the crash. My buddy does a lot of the fab work on the maro and is one of his sponsors....Another buddy of mine has the 70 ss chevelle with the blown injected alky motor that was at the wchra races that weekend........great pictures by the way.
Jimken.....any tips for shooting at the track at night? When there is no wind to blow away the smoke my pictures always come out hazy....as far as gear im shooting with a 40d, 580ex flash, 24-70L 2.8 and also have a 70-200L 2.8..as well....couldnt really time the launches....any info would be great.

Impressive car. This would have seemed totally impossible 20 years ago. Love the turbo cars. I have a twin turbo Mustang for my daily driver. Not a race car, but it's a blast to drive. Very nice pics!

On shooting at night, when theres tire smoke and your using a flash your just out of luck, no magic bullet that I know of. As far as how I set up my camera for night shots on the starting line,I have pretty much the same lenses you have and I'm using a Metz 54 flash. I set my camera on manual mode, adjust the shutter to 1/250 or 1/200, set the aperture to 2.8, ISO on 800, set my flash on manual and adjust to 1/8 power. Setting the flash at 1/8 allows you to shoot in burst mode and get a few shots off before the flash peters out. Below is an example. I hope this helps you out.

Sweet shots though! I love camaros, especially that last one. Oh, and the Chevelle, gorgeous!

As far as timing the cars off the line I watch them through the lense and when they move I snap. Watch the staging lights and when both cars have the top bulbs lite up get ready for the tree to drop and focus on the cars. Keep your attention on the car your shooting, if they are bracket racing the car in the other lane may leave off of a different light. I hope this was helpful.

Yes thats his car...great pics. Its finally starting to hook up. He has all the good stuff but hasnt been able to get it to hook off the line using the trans brake....
Exif for the picture is f2.8 1/250 at ISO640.....used noise ninja on it and just played with levels, curves and sharpening..

Maybe its the sharpening that's throwing me. Not bad though. Sac isn't the easiest place to hook up either. We have a hard time too. Whatd he run?

His class was one of the 1/8 mile ones and he was clicking off 5.35's. Ran a 1320 pass 8.60@168 I believe. should be high 7's once he gets everything dialed in.
