I've been looking at alot of DSLR's and with price being a big factor was just about decided on the "old" Rebel - especially with prices starting to come down. I have a chance to get a "Factory Demo" 10D with full warranty from a reputable dealer for $799 (body kit only - no lense)
What do you think - Is this a good value compared to the Rebel at just under $700 now?

I know the big issue for me with the 10D vs Rebel thing was that you need to spend quite a few $$$ to get a good wide angle on the 10D, where as the kit lens gives it to you on the Rebel.
I know alot of people dislike the 18-55, but it does fill a gap. I can see from how much you are looking at for a body, the cost of the 17-40L (the 10D's closest Canon alternative to the 18-55) is most probably out of the question.

Go for it, price seems fair, especially if you are getting a warranty.

i have the 18-55 modified to fit on an ef mount. very easy to mod. 2 small crosspoint screwdrivers, and a small hand hacksaw is all it takes. the groove where you have to cut is like the exact size of the balde. makes for a very easy job and a clean cut.

What about some of the after market lenses - sigma, tamron? Also what about the Ef 75-300 cannon - only about $100 - any good?

Unless the lens is of the 50mm kind, pretty much all lenses under $250 make better dust caps then lenses.

Xdjo - would like more info on the 18-55 mod if possible. I ordered the 10D!!!
Will probably go for the "Nifty 50" as my first lense too.
